General overview of Seedot
Seedot is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Seedot and its Japanese name is Taneboh. This small acorn-shaped Pokémon is easily recognized by its round head, which closely resembles a seed that has fallen from a tree. Seedot is a base Pokémon that evolves into Nuzleaf and then into Shiftry with a Leaf Stone, making it a lineage that players appreciate from the very start of an adventure.
In the Pokédex, Seedot is described as living primarily in forests, clinging to branches or resting on the ground near trees. Its small size lets it go unnoticed by predators. It stays perfectly still for long periods, passing itself off as a plain acorn. This trait is consistent with its defensive gameplay early in the game.
Type, strengths and weaknesses
Seedot has the Grass type, which gives it useful resistances against Water and Ground attacks. This makes it a solid choice in certain aquatic or forested areas. However, it remains vulnerable to Fire, Ice, Poison, Bug and Flying attacks — types that appear very frequently depending on the route and how far the player has progressed.
Its type allows it to quickly learn control- and support-oriented attacks, ideal for weakening opponents while preserving its own HP. Even though its Defense is limited, its usefulness lies mainly in its ability to hold on over the course of a battle.
Base stats and progression
Seedot's base stats are modest, which is normal for a first-stage Pokémon. Its HP and Defense are adequate to take a few hits early in the game, but its Attack and Speed remain quite low. It is primarily designed to evolve quickly in order to unlock a far more interesting potential.
As it gains levels, Seedot learns effective Grass moves, allowing it to stay useful in a team focused on progression. Its growth is steady, and it reaches the levels needed to trigger its evolution without difficulty.
Notable attacks and moves
Seedot mainly learns Grass-type attacks, often based on seeds, leaves or natural energy. These attacks are well-suited for handling Water Pokémon encountered early in the adventure. Certain moves also allow it to hinder the opponent by lowering their stats or inflicting status conditions.

Support moves useful in longer battles

Evolution and strategic value
Seedot evolves into Nuzleaf from a certain level onward, which considerably improves its stats and access to attacks. This evolution marks a real turning point in its power and battle role. The final evolution, Shiftry, completely transforms the Pokémon into a far more offensive and versatile fighter.
For strategic players, Seedot is primarily a long-term investment. It is not meant to dominate battles right away, but it provides a solid foundation for a rapid and effective evolution. In the Hoenn games, it remains a coherent choice for balancing a team during the first hours of play.
Seedot in the game and trading cards
Seedot is often found on forest routes and is a frequent catch for completing the Pokédex. Its early availability makes it accessible to all types of players. On the card side, it appears regularly in expansions linked to the Grass type, with artwork highlighting its acorn appearance and its connection to nature.
In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Seedot is generally a basic card with simple attacks, perfect for beginner decks or evolution-focused collections. Its clean and recognizable design makes it an appreciated card among collectors, especially in series inspired by Hoenn.
