Detailed information
General Overview of Seaking
Seaking is a Water-type Pokémon well known for its large horn and very fluid swimming style. Known in Japanese as アズマオウ, this elegant fish frequently appears in rivers, lakes, and areas accessible by fishing rod. Its Pokédex description presents it as a territorial Pokémon that defends its Eggs relentlessly, especially the more aggressive females.
Useful Information for the Pokémon Games
Type, Level, and Evolution
Seaking is a pure Water type. It evolves from Goldeen, generally at level 33 in the main games. This Pokémon offers interesting strategic information as it has a decent Attack thanks to its powerful horn, allowing it to use moves like Muddy Water, Poison Jab, or Waterfall. In Red and Green versions, it appears frequently in certain lakes and routes accessible by Surf or fishing.
Stats and Power Base
Seaking's stats show a profile oriented towards physical Attack and decent Speed. Its Defence and HP remain average but sufficient to absorb a few hits at intermediate levels. Its size exceeds one metre and its weight reaches several kg, making it a sturdy fish. As for its base values, Seaking sits in a balanced range but does not excel in Special Attack, which steers its move set more towards the physical side.
Recommended Moves and TM/HM Moves
Seaking can learn a wide range of moves:
Waterfall – a powerful and reliable Water move
Poison Jab – useful for hitting Grass or Fairy types
Megahorn – which becomes dangerous when its HP are low
Water Pulse – for the potential confusion effect
Rain Dance – to boost Water power and increase Speed with certain abilities
It can also use classic TMs such as Toxic, or even HMs in older generations. Some sets include Agility or Rain Dance to take advantage of its Speed.
Encounters and Locations
Seaking appears in many water areas: rivers, lakes, sea routes, and sometimes flooded caves. In Pokémon Pearl and Platinum, it is often accessible by fishing. In more recent games such as Sword and Shield, it appears in certain Wild Areas linked to rain weather. Its Pokédex number varies depending on the version, but it remains the natural evolution of Goldeen, often associated with red and white colours.
Information for Collectors
Seaking Pokémon Cards and Strategic Interest
Seaking has several cards in classic expansions. Cards centred on simple but effective Water moves can be found, with a reasonable Energy cost and sometimes a secondary effect such as a luck bonus or confusion. The cards offer a good balance between HP, Defence, and power, making it a decent Pokémon in Water decks focused on quick evolutions from Goldeen. Card prices vary depending on the edition, but some older versions from the Red and Green era are appreciated by collectors.
Breeding and Eggs
Seaking belongs to the Water 2 Egg Group. Females lay Eggs in natural nests often hidden in rocks or deep rivers. For the games, this makes it possible to obtain Goldeen with inherited moves such as certain Water or Flying moves depending on the father, which can strengthen a physical Attack-oriented set.
