Overview of Polteageist

Polteageist is a Pokémon of the Ghost type introduced in the eighth generation. It is known by the English name Polteageist and the Japanese name ポットデス. This Pokémon is the direct evolution of Sinistea and stands out for its original concept tied to tea and haunted teapots.

Polteageist takes the form of a teapot animated by spectral energy. Its body consists of a cracked ceramic pot filled with possessed black tea. This theme directly influences its moves, its stats, and its strategic utility in battle.

Evolution and available forms

Polteageist is obtained by evolving Sinistea. The evolution depends on the starting form of Sinistea and the item used. Two distinct forms exist, which primarily matter for collection and Pokédex purposes.

  • Phony Form: the most common, recognizable by the absence of a mark on the underside of the teapot

  • Antique Form: very rare, with a visible seal on the underside of the pot

Both forms have exactly the same stats and moves in battle. The difference matters mostly for players completing the Pokédex or collecting all variants.

Type, size, and weight

Polteageist is a Ghost-type Pokémon. It stands approximately 0.2 m tall and weighs around 0.4 kg. Despite its small size and low weight, it possesses impressive offensive power, particularly through its Special Attack.

Its type grants it an immunity to Normal and Fighting-type attacks, but makes it vulnerable to Dark and Ghost types. These elements are essential to keep in mind during strategic battles.

Base stats and EVs

Polteageist's base stats are oriented toward Special Attack. Its Defense and Special Defense are acceptable, while its HP remains low. Its Speed is average, often requiring good timing management in battle.

  • Low HP, compensated by strong offensive pressure

  • Very high Special Attack, ideal for offensive sets

  • Acceptable Defense, but sensitive to physical damage

EVs are generally invested in Special Attack and Speed to maximize damage potential before being hit.

Main moves and abilities

Polteageist has access to a wide range of Ghost and Psychic-type moves. Its signature move Shadow Ball is a staple, dealing heavy damage while taking advantage of its excellent Special Attack.

  • Shadow Ball for reliable Ghost-type damage

  • Psyshock to target the opponent's physical Defense

  • Trick to disrupt enemy strategies

  • Shell Smash to sharply boost its offensive stats

Thanks to Shell Smash, Polteageist can become extremely dangerous within a few turns, though at the cost of lost HP, which requires careful planning.

Ability and recommended nature

Polteageist's primary ability is Cursed Body. When hit by a move, it may prevent the opponent from using that move for several turns. This ability adds an extra strategic dimension, especially in prolonged battles.

The most commonly used nature is Modest to maximize Special Attack, or Timid to increase Speed. The choice depends on the desired playstyle and the level of competition.

Battle utility and strategic information

Polteageist is primarily used as a special attacker in the mid or late game. Its ability to quickly boost its stats makes it an excellent sweeper, provided it is protected against priority moves and Dark types.

It is particularly appreciated in teams looking to catch opponents off guard with a Pokémon of low weight and small size, yet capable of dealing considerable damage in a short amount of time.

Whether for the Pokédex, strategic battles, or collecting rare forms, Polteageist remains a standout Pokémon of its generation — as original as it is effective.
