Overview of Petilil
Petilil is a Grass type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. It is known by its Japanese name チュリネ. In the Pokédex, Petilil is described as a small plant Pokémon living in sunny areas, where its leaves develop thanks to solar energy. Its compact silhouette and light body make it an easy creature to recognise for players exploring Unova or other regions where it is available.
Petilil is primarily appreciated as a strategic evolution base. Although it is fragile in direct combat, it constitutes an essential step in obtaining Lilligant, a Pokémon much more oriented towards Special Attack and Speed. For Trainers, understanding Petilil's role is important in order to optimise its progression and use on the team.
Petilil's Stats and Type
Petilil has the Grass type, which grants it useful resistances against Water, Ground, and Electric moves. On the other hand, it has marked weaknesses against Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug types. Its base stats are modest, with relatively low HP and Defense, making it vulnerable in prolonged battles.
Its potential relies more on its ability to learn support moves and evolve quickly. On a well-built team, Petilil is rarely used to deal direct damage, but rather as a transitional step before evolution.
Learned Moves and Abilities
Petilil's moves are centred on the Grass type and utility abilities. It quickly learns moves like Absorb and Razor Leaf, which chip away at the opponent's HP while remaining consistent with its limited defensive role. As it levels up, it can also access support moves related to leaves and recovery.

Evolution and Special Conditions
Petilil evolves into Lilligant when exposed to a Sun Stone. This evolution does not depend on level, which allows players to choose the optimal moment to transform Petilil based on learned moves. It is often advised to wait for certain key abilities to be learned before using the stone.
In certain regions or game variants, alternative forms of Lilligant exist, which reinforces the strategic interest of Petilil as an evolution base.
Catch Rate and In-Game Presence
Petilil's catch rate is relatively high, making it accessible even to players in the early stages of their adventure. It generally appears in sunny grassy areas, often during the day. Its small size and calm behaviour make wild encounters easy.
In Pokémon GO, Petilil is available during certain events or via specific encounters, and may require Candy to evolve into Lilligant.
Petilil in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
In the Trading Card Game, Petilil appears as a basic card with modest HP. Its moves are low-energy and oriented towards preparing for evolution. Collectors particularly appreciate the Shiny versions, recognisable by their alternative colours, which are often more sought after on the market.
These cards are primarily used in decks focused on rapid evolution into Lilligant, rather than for their raw damage output.
