General overview of Pancham
Pancham is a Pokémon of the Fighting type introduced in the sixth generation. It is known as Pancham in English and ヤンチャム in Japanese. This mischievous-looking Pokémon is clearly inspired by the panda and adopts a provocative demeanor both in the Pokédex and on the battlefield.
Pancham holds number 674 in the national Pokédex. It has a compact appearance with expressive eyes that reflect its combative temperament. Despite its small size, it has a good base power and can surprise opponents in the early levels of an adventure.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
Pancham's Fighting type makes it very effective against Rock, Dark, Steel, and Ice types. However, it has several significant weaknesses that must be taken into account in battle.
Main weaknesses against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy types
Good resistance against Rock and Dark moves
Vulnerable to special moves due to average Special Defense
These weaknesses make the choice of opponents crucial, especially before its evolution into Pangoro which changes its dual typing.
Base stats and potential
Pancham has balanced base stats for a Pokémon from the early-to-mid game. Its HP are decent, its Attack is clearly its strongest point, while its Speed remains rather low.
Good Attack stat to exploit punch-based moves
Decent Defense allowing it to take hits in close combat
Limited Speed, sometimes requiring acting second in battle
Its nature strongly influences its effectiveness. An Adamant or Brave nature is often preferred to maximize physical power, especially in offensive strategies.
Moves and learned abilities
Pancham learns several Fighting-oriented and direct-contact moves. Its style is based on physical pressure and the use of charging or high-impact moves.
Punch-based moves such as Karate Chop or Power-Up Punch
Charging moves to deal consistent damage
Access to several useful TMs oriented toward power and coverage
Through TMs, it can learn a variety of moves to surprise opponents, particularly against the types it faces most often early in the game.
Evolution of Pancham
Pancham evolves into Pangoro beyond a certain level, under a specific condition linked to the team's composition. This evolution marks an important turning point in terms of power and strategy.
Evolution into Pangoro after the required level
Gains the Dark type in addition to the Fighting type
Notable increase in HP and overall power
This evolution reinforces its role as a brutal fighter and improves its presence in more advanced battles.
Capture and availability in games
Pancham is generally available for capture on certain specific routes depending on the game version. Its catch rate is average, making it accessible without being automatic.
Wild encounters possible depending on the generation
Balanced catch rate for a Fighting Pokémon
Present in several Sun, Moon, and Ultra versions
It is also present in Pokémon GO, where it retains its role as a physical fighter, appreciated for its evolution and base power.
Appeal for cards and collecting
In the Trading Card Game (TCG), Pancham appears regularly in Fighting-themed sets. Its cards often highlight its direct moves and Fighting-type energy.
For collectors, its Shiny version and certain alternate illustrations are sought after, particularly to complete the evolutionary line with Pangoro.
