Detailed information

Overview of Omanyte

Omanyte is a prehistoric Pokémon from Kanto, known in Japanese as オムナイト. This Water and Rock Pokémon comes from a Helix Fossil that can be revived in several games across different generations. Its spiral body is very recognizable, and its status as an ancient creature gives it a special place in the Pokédex for players who wish to complete their collection or optimize their team.

Omanyte is generally small and light compared to other Rock Pokémon, often weighing just a few kilograms. It is described as a Pokémon that once lived in the ocean depths, using its shell to protect itself from predators. This description, found in Pokédex entries and specialized articles, highlights that Omanyte can defend itself adequately despite its low Speed.

Type, useful information, and obtaining

Omanyte belongs to the Water and Rock types, which gives it particular vulnerabilities to Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Electric. However, it can effectively resist Fire, Flying, Ice, and Normal attacks. In most games, Omanyte is never found in the wild: the player must obtain a fossil and then restore it in a laboratory, as in Kanto. It is sometimes available in certain events, raids, or distributions depending on the version.

Evolution and progression

Omanyte evolves into Omastar at level 40. This relatively late level requires some patience but allows the player to obtain a much more powerful Rock and Water Pokémon. Its evolution greatly improves its Defense, Special Attack power, and overall base stats. Players often note that investing in its IVs or EVs is essential to maximizing its defensive or offensive role depending on the team composition.

Stats, defense, and role in battle

Omanyte has high Defense, making it an excellent Pokémon for absorbing physical attacks. Its Special Attack stats are also interesting to take advantage of moves such as Water Pulse, Surf, or Ancient Power. However, its Speed remains low, which requires planning support or an adapted strategy. On a rain or sandstorm team, it benefits from additional bonuses that can reduce incoming damage or improve its power.

In terms of battle sets, Omanyte can use Water, Rock, Ice, and even Knock Off or Toxic in certain generations. Its PP and power management in battle must be optimized to compensate for its limited Speed while using its Defense as a strategic lever.

Recommended moves and useful abilities

As it levels up, Omanyte regularly learns Water moves such as Water Gun, Bubble Beam, or Water Pulse, followed by Rock moves such as Rock Blast and Ancient Power. TMs or HMs also allow it to access Surf in games where this move is available. Depending on the version, it can learn Ice moves, useful against Grass or Dragon Pokémon. Players often take advantage of its Rock type to use moves that are effective against Flying and Fire targets.

Omanyte in the games and trading cards

In the video games, Omanyte appears regularly in the Red, Blue, Yellow, Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, Sun, Moon, and their remakes. Its availability almost always depends on the chosen fossil, which guarantees a unique encounter.

Regarding the cards, Omanyte has several versions in different sets. Certain Water or Rock cards highlight its high Defense or special abilities tied to its bubbles or storms. Card players mainly appreciate the versions that depict its prehistoric appearance and the defensive effects it can produce.
