General overview of Ninjask
Ninjask is a Bug and Flying type Pokémon, known for its exceptional speed and its battle style inspired by a ninja. Its English name is Ninjask and its Japanese name is テッカニン. It is the direct evolution of Nincada at level 20, provided the player has an empty slot in their party, which makes it a special case in the Pokémon universe. Ninjask is often associated with strategies based on speed, offensive pressure, and tactical positioning.
In the Pokédex, Ninjask is described as a Pokémon capable of moving so fast that it becomes almost invisible to the naked eye. It generally lives in forests, near trees whose sap it sips, which reinforces its connection with nature and Grass. Its black and yellow body, red wings, and angular head give it an aggressive and highly recognizable appearance.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
Ninjask has the dual Bug and Flying type. This combination grants it great mobility but also significant weaknesses. It is particularly vulnerable to Rock type attacks, which deal heavy damage, as well as Fire and Electric attacks. On the other hand, it resists Grass and Fighting types well, which allows it to switch in more easily against certain opponents.
The Flying type also allows it to avoid Ground type attacks, a non-negligible advantage in several strategic battles. However, its low HP and limited defense force the Trainer to anticipate every switch with precision.
Base stats and speed
Ninjask's base stats are very polarized. Its speed is one of the highest among all non-legendary Pokémon, making it a formidable choice for taking the initiative in battle. Its attack is decent and allows physical moves such as Scratch or Metal Claw to be exploited effectively. On the other hand, its HP and defenses are low, which limits its ability to absorb hits.
In a stats table, Ninjask stands out clearly for its max speed, often used to set up boost strategies or to finish off a weakened opponent. This characteristic makes it an excellent offensive pivot in a well-built team.
Evolution and special conditions
Ninjask is the evolution of Nincada at level 20. This evolution is unique in that it can be accompanied by the appearance of Shedinja if certain conditions are met, notably an empty slot in the party and a Poké Ball available. This mechanic makes Ninjask particularly interesting from a strategic and collection perspective.
In several versions such as Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, or White, this evolution remains the same and is among the most original in the Pokémon franchise.
Attacks, moves, and TMs
Ninjask learns attacks oriented toward speed and harassment. It can use Bug Buzz to deal Bug type damage, as well as attacks like Scratch, Metal Claw, or Shadow Ball via TM. Its cry can be used to lower the opponent's attack, while Flash and certain HMs offer out-of-battle utility.
In battle, its power relies more on rapidly chaining attacks than on raw damage. It is often played as an offensive support capable of applying pressure from the very first turns.
Ninjask in the Pokédex and the cards
In the Pokédex, Ninjask is classified as a ninja Pokémon, highlighting its speed and stealthy behavior. It is appreciated by players for its unique style and well-defined battle role. Its catch rate remains moderate, making it accessible during exploration of forested areas.
On the card side, Ninjask appears regularly with effects related to speed or quick retreat from the field. These cards appeal to collectors thanks to their dynamic design and their consistency with the original species.
Ninjask's place on a team
Ninjask naturally finds its place on a team focused on speed and controlling the pace. It works well alongside Pokémon capable of absorbing Rock or Fire attacks, thus compensating for its main weaknesses. When used well, Ninjask becomes a major strategic asset for surprising the opponent and gaining the advantage from the very start of the battle.
Ninjask thus remains a reference for players seeking a fast, technical, and iconic Pokémon from the Hoenn region.
