Detailed information

Overview of Misdreavus

Misdreavus is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in the Johto region. Its English name is Misdreavus and its Japanese name is Muma. This Pokémon is known for its nocturnal behavior and its strong connection to the night and negative emotions, making it an iconic creature in the second-generation Pokédex. Misdreavus floats silently and uses spectral waves to frighten opponents rather than relying on brute force.

For players, Misdreavus is primarily appreciated for its strategic profile. It has only a single type, which limits its weaknesses, and offers an interesting foundation for building status or harassment sets in battle. Its design and dark theme also make it an appreciated card among collectors.

Ghost Type and Battle Resistances

Misdreavus is exclusively Ghost-type. This type grants it a total immunity to Normal and Fighting moves, which is very useful in competitive battles. However, it is vulnerable to Ghost and Dark moves, which are common types at high levels.

This defensive profile allows Misdreavus to switch into certain moves and set up support abilities. In battle, it is often used to disrupt the opponent with status moves rather than to deal direct damage.

Base Stats and Potential

Misdreavus's base stats are balanced but oriented toward Special Defense and Speed. Its Attack and Special Attack remain modest, limiting its purely offensive role. On the other hand, its decent Speed allows it to act before many Pokémon at the same level.

At equivalent levels, Misdreavus can surprise by absorbing certain special moves and disrupting the battle's pace. For EVs, it is often optimized in Speed and Special Defense to maximize its longevity on the field.

Key Moves and Abilities

Misdreavus has a wide selection of Ghost and Psychic moves via TM. Among its notable moves, you will find Hex, Dark Pulse and Shadow Sneak depending on the generation. It can also learn Ominous Wind, an interesting area move in double battles.

Its movepool also includes support moves like Will-O-Wisp, which reduces the opponent's physical Attack, and Mean Look to prevent fleeing. These moves make Misdreavus a very difficult Pokémon to face.

Evolution and Progression

Misdreavus has an evolution. It evolves into Mismagius when exposed to a Dusk Stone. This evolution greatly increases its offensive stats and gives it access to a much more aggressive battle role.

Before evolving, Misdreavus remains mainly a tactical choice or a transitional Pokémon on a team. Evolution is generally recommended as soon as possible to fully exploit its potential.

Misdreavus in the Pokédex and Cards

In the Pokédex, Misdreavus is described as a Pokémon that feeds on fear and negative emotions. It appears mainly at night, reinforcing its Ghost identity and its connection to darkness.

In card form, Misdreavus is appreciated for its design and its dark artwork. Certain cards highlight its red spheres and its floating appearance, making it a sought-after piece by collectors, especially in Johto-related series.

Strategic Use for Players

Misdreavus is rarely used as a primary attacker. It finds its place as a support, blocker or control Pokémon. In raids or standard battles, it is most useful for weakening the opponent and setting the stage for another Pokémon.

When used effectively, Misdreavus can become a genuine nuisance and force opponent switches, making it an interesting choice for players who enjoy tactical battles and pace management.
