Detailed information

General overview of Mightyena

Mightyena is a Pokémon of the Dark type introduced in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Mightyena and its Japanese name is グラエナ. It is the direct evolution of Poochyena and stands out for its organised and disciplined predator behaviour. For players, Mightyena is best known for its ability to function effectively in team battles while remaining accessible from the middle of the adventure.

Mightyena adopts a calm and determined attitude. In the Pokédex universe, it is described as a Pokémon that never obeys a poor Trainer, but follows the orders of a good Trainer without hesitation. This characteristic is reflected in the games through its strategic positioning and its moves oriented towards offensive pressure and disrupting the opponent.

General information and base data

Mightyena belongs to the pure Dark Pokémon group. It is larger and sturdier than Poochyena, which allows it to better withstand certain hits. Its base stats are balanced, with decent Attack and average Defense, making it versatile but dependent on strategy.

In battle, Mightyena relies more on Intimidate, Bite and pursuit than on raw power. It is often used to weaken an enemy, force switches or secure KOs on already-damaged Pokémon. Its IVs and EVs are generally optimised to boost its Attack and Speed in order to take advantage of its priority moves.

Type and weaknesses

As a Dark-type Pokémon, Mightyena is immune to Psychic-type moves, giving it a significant tactical advantage. However, it remains weak to Fighting, Bug and Fairy types. This combination requires players to carefully anticipate matchups and integrate it into a balanced team.

Moves and battle style

Mightyena is often associated with moves such as Bite, Super Fang or Dark Pulse. These moves reinforce its role as a harasser capable of progressively reducing the opponent's HP. It can also learn support moves that disrupt the enemy, making it an interesting choice in double battles or pack-based strategies.

Its playstyle relies on constant pressure. Mightyena is not the most powerful Pokémon on paper, but when used well, it can turn a battle around by exploiting the opponent's weaknesses. It is particularly effective against fragile Psychic and Ghost Pokémon.

Mightyena in the Pokédex and evolution

In the Pokédex, Mightyena is classified as the Bite Pokémon. It hunts its prey in groups and always acts according to precise orders. This pack concept is central to its description and reinforces its identity. It evolves from Poochyena at a certain level, making it a natural and quick evolution during the adventure.

In Ruby, Sapphire and their remakes, Mightyena is often encountered with enemy Trainers, making it a familiar yet respected Pokémon. Its number in the regional and national Pokédex makes it an iconic representative of Hoenn's Dark type.

Pokémon cards and interest for collectors

The Pokémon card Mightyena exists in several editions, with illustrations highlighting its dark and imposing side. Certain EX cards or alternative versions may be of interest depending on their rarity and condition. Collectors particularly appreciate cards where Mightyena is depicted mid-hunt or surrounded by its pack.

For players of the card game, Mightyena remains a situational option, but certain cards offer good control effects or progressive damage. This makes it a Pokémon appreciated both for gameplay and for collecting, especially among fans of Dark types and pressure-based strategies.
