General overview of Luxray
Luxray is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in the Sinnoh region. Its English name is Luxray and its Japanese name is レントラー. It represents the final form of the Shinx evolutionary line, after Luxio, and embodies a highly offensive fighter appreciated by players for its high attack stats and imposing design. In the Pokédex, Luxray is known for its eyes capable of seeing through walls to spot hidden prey, reinforcing its identity as an Electric predator.
Luxray stands out with stats oriented toward physical Attack, making it an excellent choice for teams seeking a powerful Electric Pokémon in battle. Its presence is prominent in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and their remakes, as well as in many subsequent generations.
Base stats and battle orientation
Luxray's base stats are clearly focused on Attack, with a very high value that allows it to deal significant damage. Its HP is decent without being exceptional, while its Defense remains average, requiring players to anticipate opposing attacks. Its Speed is not its strong suit, but it remains sufficient to hold its own against many opponents in battle.
High Attack stat, ideal for physical combat
Good balance between HP and Special Defense
Notable weakness against Ground type
Very effective against Water and Flying types
Type, weaknesses and resistances
Luxray is a pure Electric-type Pokémon. This type grants it a natural resistance to Electric and Flying attacks, but makes it vulnerable to Ground-type attacks. In battle, it is essential to watch for opposing moves capable of putting it in difficulty, especially the widespread Ground attacks in the Sinnoh region.
Thanks to its type, Luxray is often used as an effective counter against Water Pokémon, which are very common in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Its dual offensive and utility potential allows it to integrate easily into different strategies.
Moves, attacks and strategic potential
Luxray has a wide range of offensive and support moves. It can learn powerful Electric attacks such as Spark or Thunder, as well as Dark-type attacks like Crunch, very useful for surprising certain opponents. Thanks to TMs and move tutors, it is possible to adapt Luxray to several play styles.
High-power Electric attacks for dealing fast damage
Access to coverage moves against Psychic and Ghost
Possibility of using Light Screen to support the team
Roar and Scary Face to disrupt opposing strategies
Evolution, level and capture information
Luxray is the final evolution of Shinx. Evolution happens automatically from Luxio at level 30. This level is easily reachable during the main adventure, making Luxray accessible fairly early for a Pokémon of this power level. Its encounter rate depends on specific zones in Sinnoh and the game version.
In terms of nature, an Attack or Speed orientation is generally favored in order to optimize its effectiveness in battle. Luxray remains a popular choice both for the adventure and for strategic battles.
Luxray in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
Luxray is also very present in the Trading Card Game. Each Luxray Pokémon card highlights its electrical power, with attacks dealing heavy damage or effects tied to Electric energy. Some cards are particularly sought after for their value or their utility in deck building.
Whether in the video game or in cards, Luxray remains an iconic Pokémon of Sinnoh, appreciated for its style, its offensive stats and its direct impact in battle.
