Detailed information

Overview of Lucario

Lucario is an iconic Pokémon of the fourth generation, known by its English name Lucario and its Japanese name ルカリオ. It belongs to the dual Fighting and Steel type, giving it a highly sought-after strategic identity in the main games as well as in the TCG. Lucario is the direct evolution of Riolu and represents a clear step up in terms of stats, defense, and move variety. In the Pokédex, it is listed under number 448 and is distinguished by its ability to perceive and manipulate aura.

Type, form, and general information

Lucario has an average height of approximately 1.2 meters and a weight close to 54 kg. Its slender body and bipedal posture make it a close-combat oriented Pokémon, with excellent Speed and great precision. Its dual Fighting and Steel type grants it many natural resistances, notably against Poison, Rock, and Steel-type attacks. However, it remains vulnerable to Ground, Fire, and opposing Fighting-type attacks, which must be taken into account during battles.

Base stats and battle power

Lucario's base stats are very well-balanced, with high Attack and Special Attack, allowing it to be played both as a physical attacker and as a special attacker. Its Defense and Special Defense are decent without being exceptional, but compensated by good Speed. This versatility makes Lucario a highly valued Pokémon in competitive play, capable of surprising opponents thanks to varied and unpredictable sets.

Signature moves and iconic attacks

Lucario has a wide range of moves suited to its type and power. Among its most frequently used moves, one finds Aura Sphere, a special Fighting-type attack that never misses, Meteor Mash to exploit the Steel type, and Shadow Ball to cover a maximum of opponents. It can also learn Flash Cannon, Blaze Kick, or various moves via TM and HM depending on the game. This diversity of moves makes Lucario formidable both in solo play and in strategic battle.

Evolution and conditions of acquisition

Lucario is the evolution of Riolu, a Pokémon generally obtained via Egg or a specific encounter depending on the version. The evolution triggers when Riolu levels up with a high happiness level, often during the day. This evolution mechanic reinforces the Pokémon's progression aspect and makes it particularly rewarding to train. Once evolved, Lucario immediately becomes viable for advanced battles and competitive teams.

Lucario in the games and the TCG

In the main Pokémon franchise games, Lucario regularly appears as a rare Pokémon or one given through a scripted event, notably in the Sinnoh games. It is also very present in Pokémon GO, where it is valued for its power in raids and in League battles. On the collectible card side, Lucario benefits from many popular cards, often centered on the Speed and power of its attacks. Certain alternative versions and shiny cards are highly sought after by collectors.

Strategic use and team role

Lucario fits perfectly onto a balanced team, where it can act as a fast sweeper or a wall breaker. Thanks to its Steel type, it can switch in on several attacks without too much risk, then retaliate with powerful moves. Its flexibility makes it a reliable choice for players looking for a dependable Pokémon that is just as effective in progressing through the games as it is in battles against other Trainers.
