Detailed information

General overview of Lickitung

Lickitung is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Kanto and known for its very long tongue, which it uses both in battle and to explore its surroundings. Its Japanese name is ベロリンガ (Beroringa). In the Pokédex, it is often described as a somewhat unusual but versatile Pokémon capable of surprising opponents with moves based on its tongue and its bulky body. With a weight typical of its category and a fairly imposing size, it holds a special place on teams looking for a tank that can hold its own at low and mid levels.

Strategically, Lickitung benefits from solid bulk with good HP and decent Defense. Its Attack stats are not extraordinary, but it compensates with a wide move set and useful versatility in battle. Players particularly appreciate its ability to absorb multiple hits, recover indirectly via items, and support the team with status moves. In Pokémon GO, Lickitung also benefits from a decent catch rate and high Stamina, making it very useful in certain raids or leagues.

Type, stats, and useful information

Lickitung is a Normal type, which gives it only one weakness — Fighting — but no particular resistance. This simplicity allows it to slot into a team without synergy constraints. Its HP is its best stat, while its Attack and Speed remain low. Its base values are typical of Pokémon tanks. Thanks to its long tongue, it can use several Normal-type moves like Body Slam, Stomp, or Wrap, as well as more technical options like Swords Dance or elemental TMs depending on the game.

Its Pokédex entries often humorously describe how it uses its tongue to grab anything that interests it. It can repeat certain actions several times in a row, which is reflected in its sometimes unpredictable battle style. Its Pokédex number varies by version, but it remains one of the iconic Pokémon of Kanto.

Evolution, breeding, and held items

Lickitung can evolve into Lickilicky when it learns the move Rollout in the main games. This evolution grants a significant boost to Attack and Defense, making the Pokémon much more dangerous in battle. Evolution is therefore strongly recommended for players looking to optimize their team.

Regarding breeding, Lickitung belongs to the Monster egg group and can pass certain abilities and moves to its offspring. Eggs take a certain amount of time to hatch depending on the game version. Using specific held items like Power items can help optimize EVs.

Important moves and abilities

In terms of level-up moves, Lickitung learns its first attacks at a low level, such as Wrap or Lick. Later, it can learn more powerful moves like Body Slam or Defense Curl to increase its defensive bulk. Certain TMs allow it to add Ice, Ghost, or even Psychic coverage like Zen Headbutt, broadening its role in battle. Its tail and tongue are central to its attack animations.

In terms of power, players often use Lickitung as a physical wall or as a support Pokémon, thanks to its ability to absorb a great deal of damage. It does not stand out for its Speed, but for its stability in battle and its rare endurance.

Use in the games and catching

Lickitung appears in several areas depending on the generation, sometimes as a rare encounter. Capturing it can take some patience due to its specific rate. In Pokémon GO, its max CP is limited but its Stamina lets it last longer than other Pokémon of the same tier. Raids where it appears are appreciated for being relatively straightforward to clear.

On a team, Lickitung is often chosen for its tank role and its ability to withstand multiple hits. Its very wide move pool makes it a viable option for original strategies.
