Detailed information

General overview of Kabutops

Kabutops is a fossil Pokémon that evolves from Kabuto. Its English name is Kabutops and its Japanese name is カブトプス. Highly appreciated by players for its aggressive style and sharp blades, Kabutops belongs to the Rock and Water types, a useful combination in several games, particularly in competitive strategy or for rounding out a balanced team. Its slender body, protected by a rigid shell, allows it to move quickly even on land, outpacing its prey thanks to an excellent base Speed.

Useful information for players

In the Pokédex, Kabutops is often described as an ancient predator. With an impressive average size and a weight of several kg, it displays well-distributed stats for a fossil Pokémon. Its evolution level from Kabuto varies by game, but it reaches its final form at a level suitable for building a balanced team before the late-game areas.

Types, weaknesses and abilities

Kabutops has the Rock and Water types. This combination grants it good resistance against several moves, but also classic weaknesses such as Grass, Ground, Fighting and Electric. Its ability can vary depending on the version: certain abilities increase its Speed in rain, allowing it to land fast and powerful hits, particularly when it uses Water-type moves like Waterfall. Kabutops can also learn moves such as Slash, Scratch or Ground- and Mud-based attacks depending on your build.

Stats and strategic distribution

Kabutops has high Attack, solid Defense, but weaker HP and Special Attack. Speed remains an important asset, especially in a rain team. Here are the key points of its stats:

  • Very useful Attack for dealing heavy damage

  • Solid Defense against physical hits

  • Decent Speed, maximizable in a rain team

  • Average HP, requiring careful life management

For competitive players, a physical build centered on Stone Edge, Waterfall, Ancient Power or a Ground-type move can cover multiple threats. Kabutops benefits well from the TMs and HMs available depending on the version, notably in Diamond, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Black, White, Sun and Moon.

Use in the Pokémon games

Kabutops is a Pokémon often chosen as a physical sweeper. Its Rock type lets it take on dangerous opponents such as certain Ice- or Fire-type Pokémon, while its Water moves cover Ground- or Rock-type Pokémon. In Pokémon GO, its spawn rate is limited as it is a fossil Pokémon, but when available, its Attack values make it a solid choice.

Breeding, generation and appearances

Kabutops belongs to the first generation and appears in many main-series games: Red, Blue, Diamond, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Black, White, and later versions. Breeding requires Kabuto or a member of the same Egg Group. Players often look for an appropriate nature to maximize Kabutops's Speed or Attack.

Kabutops Pokémon cards

In the Pokémon TCG, each Kabutops card features variations in power, Water type or Rock type. Older cards are sometimes sought after for their value depending on condition or set. Certain editions feature cutting moves or effects tied to defense or sand. The name Kabutops appears regularly in game-inspired series and highlights its characteristic blades.
