General overview of Hakamo-o

Hakamo-o is a Fighting and Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation. Its French name is Écaïd and its Japanese name is ジャランゴ. It is the intermediate form of a powerful evolutionary line oriented toward physical combat and level-based progression. Hakamo-o is often sought out by players for its evolution potential toward Kommo-o, a very high-performing Pokémon in battle.

This Pokémon is distinguished by its body covered in rigid scales, which it uses both to protect itself and to attack. From the early levels, Hakamo-o offers balanced stats, with a decent base in Attack and Defense, making it viable early in the adventure despite still-limited Speed.

Type, stats, and base data

Hakamo-o has the dual Fighting and Dragon type, a rare combination that gives it access to powerful moves but also several weaknesses to account for. Its base stats are centered on Attack and Defense, with average HP and little-used Special Attack. Its Defense stat allows it to absorb several hits, especially against Rock, Steel, and Normal types.

Its size and weight remain modest for a Dragon type, which is reflected in its compact appearance and thick tail. Hakamo-o is listed in the Pokédex with a number specific to the Alola generation, and it is generally encountered in mountainous or arid areas.

Moves, abilities, and TMs

Hakamo-o's move list evolves quickly with level. It naturally learns physical moves based on the Fighting and Dragon types, dealing progressive but steady damage. Moves using its claws and scales are particularly effective against less defensive targets.

Through TMs, Hakamo-o can expand its offensive set with coverage moves such as additional Rock, Steel, or Dragon attacks. This allows for better management of common counters and adapting strategy depending on the gym or battle type faced. Certain moves also raise its stats, enhancing its potential in prolonged battles.

Evolution and leveling up

Hakamo-o evolves by leveling up into Kommo-o, a key step that noticeably improves its stats, particularly Defense and Attack. This evolution marks a real change of pace in the player's progression, as the damage dealt becomes much more significant from this stage onward.

Managing levels is essential to take advantage of this evolution. Before the required level, Hakamo-o can seem fragile against certain types, but once evolved, its intermediate form becomes formidable, especially in double battles or strategic situations.

Abilities, nature, and breeding

Hakamo-o has abilities oriented toward resistance and optimizing physical damage. These abilities directly influence its capacity to withstand opposing moves or deal more consistent hits. The choice of nature is important for reinforcing either Attack or Defense, depending on the intended role in the team.

Regarding eggs, Hakamo-o belongs to a breeding group compatible with several other Dragon-type Pokémon. This makes it possible to obtain Jangmo-o with interesting inherited moves, ideal for optimizing a moveset from level 1.

Strategic use and counters

In battle, Hakamo-o is primarily used as a long-term investment. It is susceptible to certain types such as Fairy, Ice, and Psychic, which represent its main counters. Good anticipation of its weaknesses is therefore essential to avoid quick eliminations.

On the other hand, against Rock, Steel, or Normal-type opponents, Hakamo-o can fully capitalize on its Fighting type and natural Defense. Well prepared, it forms a solid foundation for building a balanced team around physical Dragons.
