Detailed information

General overview of Grimer

Grimer, known as Grimer in English and ベトベター Betbeter in Japanese, is a Poison type Pokémon well known to players for its ability to invade sewers, factories, and polluted areas. In the Pokédex, it is one of the classic Poison type creatures from Kanto and remains appreciated for its durability, endurance, and defensive role in a team. Its compact yet unpredictable size and its sticky weight make it a useful Pokémon for absorbing hits, with decent HP and respectable Defense for its level. Key information shows that it evolves into Muk starting at a certain level, which greatly boosts its base stats and unlocks powerful new Poison moves.

Type, stats and Pokédex information

Grimer's Poison type gives it important resistances against Grass, Fighting, and Ghost type attacks in certain games, even though its main weakness remains the Ground type. Its base stats emphasize high HP and good Special Defense, making it difficult to knock out quickly. According to Pokédex entries, Grimer stands around one meter tall and weighs well over 30 kg, which is consistent with its composition made of waste and toxic sludge.

Evolution and important levels

Grimer evolves into Muk simply by leveling up, allowing players to quickly strengthen their team if the capture was made at a low level. Players often look for Grimer around levels 15, 20, or 25 depending on encounter locations. Once evolved, Muk offers a clear gain in power, HP, and Defense, improving its role in a strategic set. The Alolan variant also exists in certain games, changing its type to offer different battle options.

Moves, TMs and useful abilities

In battle, Grimer primarily uses Poison moves like Sludge, Venoshock, and Acid Spray. It also learns Mud-type moves, Dark type, or more defensive attacks depending on level. With TMs available in certain versions, it can learn moves like Sludge Bomb or useful support attacks in battle. Players of Pokémon GO appreciate its decent DPS when it has Poison Jab and Sludge, a solid set for a Pokémon of this category.

Encounters, capture and available locations

In the main games, Grimer generally appears in industrial areas, factories, or polluted locations. Catch rates vary by generation but remain accessible for the average player. In Pokémon GO, Grimer is available in certain wild encounter rotations or during events linked to the Poison type. Eggs and certain quests also allow players to obtain this Pokémon.

Player utility and Pokémon card

Grimer is a good choice for strengthening a team that needs a Poison Pokémon capable of absorbing damage while applying constant pressure on opponents. Its defensive role and durability make it a reliable partner both early and mid-adventure. Regarding Pokémon cards, Grimer appears in several sets, including editions highlighting Kanto Pokémon. The cards often feature good Defense values and Poison-based attacks drawing on the Pokémon's toxic power, which appeals to collectors.
