General overview of Frogadier

Frogadier is a Pokémon of the Water type introduced in the sixth generation. It is known in Japanese as ゲコガシラ. Frogadier occupies an intermediate position in the evolutionary line of Froakie and represents a key step before the final evolution into Greninja. In the Pokédex, it is identified as an agile, fast Pokémon that is particularly effective in battle thanks to its high Speed and offensive versatility.

This Pokémon stands around 0.6 meters tall and weighs just over 10 kg. Its slim and supple body allows it to easily dodge opposing attacks, making it an excellent choice for players who favor a playstyle based on anticipation and offensive pressure. Frogadier is highly appreciated in Pokémon X and Y, and also in Sun and Moon via transfers.

Stats and battle potential

Frogadier's stats are balanced with a clear emphasis on Speed. Its HP remains modest, but is compensated by excellent mobility. Its offensive power rests primarily on Special Attack, which strongly influences its nature and EV spread. IVs are also important for maximizing its effectiveness, particularly in strategic play.

  • Decent HP for an intermediate Pokémon

  • High Special Attack for its level

  • Very high Speed, ideal for striking first

  • Physical Defense and Special Defense both rather low

Thanks to these characteristics, Frogadier excels in fast-paced battles where it can exploit opposing weaknesses without taking too much direct damage.

Available attacks and moves

Frogadier's moveset is centered on the Water type, with very useful Ice options. Water Pulse is a key attack — reliable and accurate, ideal in the early and mid-game. Surf remains a solid staple thanks to its power and consistency. Ice Beam provides coverage against Grass and Ground types, which are often problematic for a Water-type Pokémon.

  • Water Pulse for constant pressure

  • Surf as the main Water-type attack

  • Ice Beam for Ice coverage

  • Aerial Ace to catch certain opponents off guard

TMs play an important role in customizing Frogadier, allowing its attacks to be adapted to the context of the battle and the trainer's style.

Weaknesses and resistances

As a Water-type Pokémon, Frogadier has clear weaknesses against Grass and Electric type attacks. These weaknesses must be anticipated in battle, particularly in gyms or against specialist trainers. On the other hand, it resists Fire, Ice, and Water attacks well, allowing it to hold its own against many common opponents.

Its low Defense calls for a tactical approach based on fast offense rather than endurance. Using moves like Reflect or Substitute can improve its survivability.

Evolution and role in the Pokédex

Frogadier evolves from Froakie and can evolve into Greninja from level 36. This evolution is particularly anticipated by players, as it marks a massive gain in power and unlocks new abilities. In the Pokédex, Frogadier is often described as a disciplined Pokémon that trains relentlessly to perfect its Water and Ice techniques.

This overview highlights the strategic value of Frogadier for players looking to optimize their team while preparing an exceptionally effective evolution.
