General overview of Mega Garchomp Z
This new form was officially revealed during the Pokémon Presents of February 27, 2026. It is tied to Pokémon Legends: Z-A and represents an alternative evolution to Garchomp's classic Mega Evolution. In this form, the Pokémon loses its Ground type and becomes purely Dragon type.
For players, Mega Garchomp Z represents a new strategic variation around Garchomp. The type changes and physical modifications indicate a Pokémon oriented toward speed and aerial attacks, notably thanks to the evolution of its wings and sharp appendages.
Type and Garchomp evolution
In this form, Garchomp Z becomes a Dragon type Pokémon. It therefore loses its second usual type to adopt a more focused specialization.
Mega Garchomp Z is obtained when Garchomp Mega Evolves with a Garchompite Z. This transformation is distinct from the other already known Mega form, obtained with a standard Garchompite.

This dual Mega evolution gives players several possibilities depending on the desired battle style and stats.
Appearance and transformation
The Mega Garchomp Z form greatly alters the Pokémon's appearance. The fin-like appendages on its forearms become much more developed. They adopt red and blue-purple colors and now feature several protrusions resembling claws.
Each appendage has four additional protrusions in addition to the main claw located at the inner tip. This structure reinforces the impression that the Pokémon's wings can serve as weapons during battles.
The turbine-shaped protrusion present on each side of its skull now has a red center. From this area emerge protrusions that resemble small airplane wings, accentuating the aerodynamic aspect of the form.
The Pokémon's tail also evolves. Two protrusions appear along it and the upper protrusion at the tip becomes longer. Just before the tip of the tail, a yellow stripe is visible, similar to the marks present on the ankles and belly of the Pokémon.
The claws on its lower legs become blue-purple while the tip of the tail is white. All of these changes give the Pokémon a more aggressive and faster silhouette.
Moves and battle behavior
Information from the Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Z-A indicates that Mega Garchomp Z reaches supersonic speed when in this form. Thanks to its wings transformed into sharp weapons, it can slice through its enemies with its claws during its attacks.
These characteristics reinforce the image of an extremely fast and dangerous Pokémon. In the Pokémon games, Garchomp is already renowned for its high offensive stats. This new form particularly highlights its speed and aerial combat style.
For players, Mega Garchomp Z therefore represents an important evolution in the strategic use of Garchomp. Its new form, its wings and its unique Dragon typing bring a different approach to battles in the world of Pokémon Legends.
