General overview of Elgyem

Elgyem is a Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its French name is Lewsor and its Japanese name is リグレー. This Pokémon stands out for its strange appearance and its strong connection to psychic powers and intelligence.

Elgyem is often described as a small being from another world, endowed with a highly developed brain. It is primarily focused on the use of special attacks and on controlling battles through Psychic-type moves. For players, Elgyem represents an interesting choice in the early or mid-game for building a team oriented around strategy and special damage.

Psychic type and main characteristics

Elgyem belongs exclusively to the Psychic type. This type allows it to be effective against Fighting and Poison-type Pokémon, while remaining vulnerable to Bug, Dark, and Ghost types. Managing its weaknesses is therefore essential to avoid being countered too quickly.

In terms of stats, Elgyem is characterized by a decent Special Attack and a solid Special Defense for a base Pokémon. Its HP remains modest, which forces the trainer to anticipate opposing physical attacks. Its Speed is not very high, but it is sufficient to land support moves or psychic strikes before certain opponents.

Stats and battle potential

Elgyem's stats are oriented toward the use of Psychic moves and special attacks. Its physical Attack is low and rarely exploited in optimized sets. On the other hand, its Special Attack and Special Defense allow it to hold up against opponents using special attacks.

With good EV training and a suitable nature, Elgyem can become a very troublesome Pokémon for opponents. It can use moves like Confusion or Psychic to deal consistent damage, while taking advantage of control moves to disrupt the battle's rhythm.

Notable moves

Elgyem naturally learns several Psychic moves that define its gameplay style. Confusion is an effective early move available from the first levels. Psybeam and Psychic then allow it to significantly increase its offensive power.

It can also access utility moves via TMs, giving it a certain flexibility. Moves like Dark Pulse offer interesting coverage against Ghost and Psychic-type opponents. This move selection makes Elgyem versatile, especially in solo battles or against trainers.

Evolution and strategic role

Elgyem evolves into a more powerful form at a certain level, which greatly increases its stats and battle potential. This evolution reinforces its role as a Psychic Pokémon specialized in special damage and field control.

Before evolving, Elgyem remains a fragile but useful Pokémon, particularly for setting up the field and weakening the opposing team. After evolving, it becomes far more viable in competitive battles and in the late game, with maximum power and better endurance.

Usefulness for players and collection

For players, Elgyem is interesting both for the main adventure and for building a balanced team. It requires a certain level of anticipation and good management of opposing types, but it rewards patient and strategic players.

From a collector's perspective, Elgyem has a distinctive visual identity and an original concept tied to psychic powers and the brain. It is appreciated by collectors for its atypical design and by players for its evolution and its progressive usefulness as levels increase.
