General overview of Dusknoir
Dusknoir is a Pokémon of the Ghost type introduced in the fourth generation. It is known by its Japanese name ヨノワール. This Pokémon represents an entity linked to the spirit world, often associated with lost souls and the mysterious waves it picks up through the antenna on its head. In the Pokédex, Dusknoir is described as an involuntary guide for spirits wandering between worlds.
Dusknoir is the final evolution of Dusclops and is obtained by trading it while holding the appropriate item. This evolution marks a clear shift in combat role, going from a defensive wall to a more versatile Pokémon capable of exploiting powerful physical attacks while retaining excellent Defense.
Stats and combat role
Dusknoir's base stats place emphasis on Defense and Special Defense. Its total HP remains decent, while its Speed is rather low. However, its physical Attack is high, allowing it to effectively use attacks like Shadow Punch or Shadow Ball depending on the generation.
In strategy, Dusknoir is often used as a blocker thanks to its Ghost type, which makes it immune to Normal and Fighting attacks. It is highly appreciated in distortion-based teams, where its low Speed becomes an advantage. Its access to Will-O-Wisp allows it to reduce the power of opposing physical attackers.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
Dusknoir's Ghost type gives it key resistances and useful immunities in battle. It takes no damage from Normal and Fighting-type attacks, making it an excellent defensive pivot. However, it remains susceptible to Ghost and Dark attacks, which are very common in competitive play.
This combination of resistances and weaknesses requires good anticipation during battles, especially against opponents using secondary Fire or Ice attacks via TMs.
Important attacks and moves
Dusknoir has a wide range of attacks from TMs and move tutors. It can learn powerful Ghost attacks, as well as highly sought-after utility moves. Its movepool allows it to be adapted to different sets depending on the level of play and the version.
Shadow Punch to exploit its physical Attack
Shadow Ball for reliable special damage
Will-O-Wisp to weaken enemies
Fire Punch or Ice Punch for coverage
Confuse Ray to disrupt the opponent
Dusknoir in the Pokédex
The Pokédex describes Dusknoir as a collector of lost spirits. Its body folds inward to absorb wandering souls and guide them to the afterlife. The radio waves emitted by its antenna are said to be capable of detecting invisible presences, even at great distances. This description reinforces its image as a guardian between two worlds.
In the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum versions, this information is particularly emphasized, highlighting its close connection to spirits and the supernatural world.
Dusknoir in the Pokémon card game
In the trading card game, Dusknoir regularly appears as a strategic card focused on control and disruption. Some cards allow damage to be moved, the opponent's hand to be disrupted, or mechanics linked to spirits to be exploited. Versions from series such as Brilliant Stars or Crown Zenith are highly sought after.
Depending on rarity and edition, the price of a Dusknoir card can vary greatly, especially for shiny or EX versions. Collectors particularly appreciate its dark design and its strong connection to the Ghost universe.
In-game use and availability
Dusknoir is generally obtained at an advanced stage of the game, making it a Pokémon suited for the mid or late game. It is not always available in the wild and often requires a trade to evolve. In some games and in Pokémon GO, it can appear during specific raids or temporary events.
Well used, Dusknoir remains a solid choice for players looking for a defensive Pokémon capable of influencing the pace of battle while dealing consistent damage.
