General overview of Dusclops

Dusclops is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Dusclops and its Japanese name is サマヨール. It is the direct evolution of Duskull and represents a key step before reaching Dusknoir via trading while holding a specific item. Dusclops is best known to players for its incredible endurance and its defensive role in many strategic battles.

In the Pokédex, Dusclops is described as a Pokémon capable of absorbing absolutely anything through its hollow body. This characteristic makes it a mysterious entity, but above all an extremely difficult one to eliminate in battle, even against powerful attacks. Its single eye can hypnotize enemies, which justifies its orientation toward status conditions.

Base stats and battle profile

Dusclops's base stats are particularly oriented toward Defense and Special Defense. Its main weaknesses lie in its relatively low HP and moderate Attack. However, its overall solidity allows it to absorb many hits, making it an excellent defensive wall.

  • Very high Defense stat for a Ghost-type Pokémon

  • Good Special Defense useful against special moves

  • Attack and Special Attack are decent but not a priority

  • Low Speed, which suits it to a slow and controlled style of play

At high levels, around level 40, Dusclops becomes a true nightmare for poorly prepared offensive teams. It is often used to stall, wear down the opponent, and set up status moves.

Important moves and abilities

Dusclops's moves primarily focus on the Ghost type and secondary effects. It has a wide choice of moves through level-up and TMs, allowing it to adapt to different battle styles.

  • Shadow Ball to deal reliable Ghost-type damage

  • Will-O-Wisp to reduce the opponent's physical Attack

  • Shadow Punch as a stable physical move

  • Hex to exploit status conditions

  • Pain Split to equalize HP with a more resilient opponent

Thanks to these moves, Dusclops can gradually wear down its opponents while remaining difficult to knock out. Its damage output is low, but its effectiveness relies more on longevity.

Evolution and obtaining

Dusclops is the evolution of Duskull from a certain level onward. To go further, it can evolve into Dusknoir only by trading while holding a specific item. This evolution mechanic makes Dusclops particularly interesting for players who want to optimize their team late in the game.

In the Hoenn region, Dusclops is generally obtained later in the adventure, which explains its advanced strategic orientation. It is rarely used early in the game but becomes extremely relevant in high-level battles and competitive formats.

Interest in Pokémon cards

In the Pokémon trading card game, Dusclops is often depicted as a defensive Pokémon, with abilities focused on reducing damage or disrupting the opponent. Some cards highlight its hollow body and single eye, reinforcing its spectral identity.

For collectors, Dusclops cards from Hoenn series or Ghost-type-focused expansions are particularly sought after. They fit well in control or attrition decks, which reinforces their interest both as playable cards and as collectibles.

Dusclops thus remains a Pokémon appreciated for its design, its resilience, and its strategic utility, both in the games and in the world of collectible cards.
