General overview of Doublade
Doublade is a Steel and Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in the sixth generation. Its English name is Doublade and its Japanese name is ニダンギル. It represents the direct evolution of Honedge and precedes Aegislash in the swords' evolutionary line. Doublade stands out for its form composed of two floating blades connected by a cloth, giving it a very distinct identity both in battle and within the Pokédex.
This Pokémon is particularly appreciated by players for its excellent defensive potential and its strategic role in battle. Thanks to its dual typing, Doublade has many resistances and can effectively block certain physical threats. It is often used as a defensive pivot or as a wall capable of landing powerful moves after adequate preparation.
Type and resistances
Doublade is a Steel and Ghost-type Pokémon. This combination grants it very high resistance against many common types. It notably resists Normal, Grass, Ice, Flying, Psychic, Rock, Bug, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy moves. Furthermore, its Ghost typing grants it a total immunity to Normal and Fighting moves.
However, Doublade also has significant weaknesses to keep in mind. It is vulnerable to Fire, Ground, Dark, and Ghost moves. These weaknesses must be anticipated when building a team, as they can quickly limit its longevity in battle.
Stats and battle potential
Doublade is characterized by very high defensive stats, particularly in Defense. Its Attack is also solid, allowing it to deal decent damage without excessive investment in offensive EVs. However, its Speed is low, making it reliant on its resistances to absorb hits before striking back.
At level 50 as well as at max level, Doublade excels in formats where managing resistances and Pokémon switching is essential. Its nature is often oriented toward Defense or Attack depending on the desired role, with EV distributions focused on survival or raw power.
Notable moves and abilities
Doublade has a wide range of blade-based and Steel-type moves. Among its most commonly used attacks, one finds moves like Sacred Sword, Iron Head, or Shadow Sneak. These abilities allow it to effectively hit a large number of opposing Pokémon.
It can also learn very useful Ghost-type moves in strategic battle, notably to surprise faster opponents. Thanks to its access to certain support abilities, Doublade can reinforce its Defense or disrupt the opposing team, making it versatile despite a relatively focused movepool.
Evolution and availability
Doublade evolves from Honedge at level 35. Its final evolution, Aegislash, requires the use of a Dusk Stone. This evolution choice allows players to decide whether they wish to keep Doublade for its unique defensive profile or move to a more versatile form with a stance change mechanic in battle.
Doublade is available in several games in the franchise, generally in specific areas or through evolution. It also appears in certain recent generations and can be obtained through trading. Its moderate rarity and iconic design make it a sought-after Pokémon for both battle and collecting.
Appeal for cards and collecting
In the Trading Card Game (TCG), Doublade has several versions appreciated for their illustration and consistency with the sword theme. Its cards often highlight its defensive aspect and its connection to Steel and Ghost. Certain editions present a good balance between gameplay value and collector interest.
Whether in a competitive team or a card collection, Doublade remains a standout Pokémon thanks to its unique style, solid resistances, and well-defined strategic role.
