Detailed information

Overview of Corphish

Corphish is a Pokémon of the Water type introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Corphish and its Japanese name is ヘイガニ. This Pokémon is recognizable by its large red claws and its aggressive temperament. Corphish is often described in the Pokédex as a Pokémon that never lets go, which is directly reflected in its battle style and its ability to land critical hits.

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, Corphish is primarily encountered in shallow aquatic areas accessible via fishing or Surf. It appears notably on certain routes such as Route 102, Route 117, and Route 3 depending on the version. Its catch rate remains reasonable, making it a good choice for trainers looking to build an offensive Water team from the middle of the adventure.

Base stats and battle profile

Corphish's base stats are clearly oriented toward Attack. Its HP are decent for a Pokémon at this level, while its Defense and Special Defense remain average. Its Speed is rather low, which requires careful battle planning and exploitation of its raw power.

  • Decent HP for a basic Water Pokémon

  • High Attack favoring physical moves

  • Average Defense that can be worked with

  • Low Speed requiring good field management

Thanks to its claws, Corphish benefits from excellent critical hit potential. In battle, it can quickly surprise an opponent with a well-placed powerful move, especially early in the game when opposing defenses are still limited.

Useful moves and abilities

Corphish has an interesting movepool for a Water type Pokémon. It naturally learns several effective offensive moves from the first few levels. Its moves include classic Water attacks as well as claw-based strikes.

  • Water moves to take advantage of the type bonus

  • Physical moves based on Attack

  • Option to learn Ice type moves via TM

  • Support techniques such as Protect or Taunt depending on the version

Ice type moves are particularly useful for countering Dragon or Grass types. By combining raw power with strong offensive moves, Corphish becomes a solid asset even before evolving.

Evolution, breeding, and EVs

Corphish evolves into Crawdaunt at a certain level, which considerably improves its base stats, particularly Attack and Defense. Before evolving, it remains very viable for accumulating experience and preparing an effective EV distribution.

In terms of EVs, Corphish is interesting for Attack training. It is often used by players looking to quickly optimize their offensive stats. Breeding is possible in the Water group, allowing eggs with good base values to be obtained for strategic raising.

Presence in the Pokédex and trading cards

In the Pokédex, Corphish is described as an aggressive Pokémon that grabs its opponents with its claws and never lets go. This description reinforces its image as a tenacious and powerful fighter.

On the card side, Corphish has appeared in several editions from Ruby and Emerald to more recent sets. Cards often highlight its claws and its Water type, with dynamic visuals appreciated by collectors. Some cards stand out for good effects related to critical hits or pressure applied to the opponent.

Thanks to its striking design and its in-battle effectiveness, Corphish remains a Pokémon appreciated by competitive players and collectors alike.
