Detailed information
Overview of Barraskewda
Barraskewda is a Water type Pokémon introduced in the eighth generation. Its English name is Barraskewda and its Japanese name is サシカマス. It is known for its high Speed and its very direct combat style, focused on rapid and offensive moves. Barraskewda is the evolved form that comes from Arrokuda, a Pokémon particularly appreciated by competitive players for its offensive pressure.
In the Pokédex, Barraskewda is described as a swift aquatic predator that uses its streamlined body to cut through water at high speed. It is often encountered in maritime and ocean areas, where it chases prey in a straight line. Its design and stats make it a coherent choice for Speed-based teams.
Base stats and battle profile
Barraskewda's stats clearly reflect its role. It has modest HP but an excellent Speed stat for a Pokémon of its stage. Its Attack is decent and allows it to effectively use physical Water moves from the early levels.
Base HP around 41 to 61 depending on sources
Decent Attack for an aquatic starter Pokémon
Very high Speed, its main strategic asset
Low defenses, requiring an offensive approach
IVs and EVs are generally invested in Attack and Speed to maximize its potential before evolution. Its ideal nature is often Jolly or Adamant depending on whether pure Speed or raw power is preferred.
Abilities and key moves
Barraskewda has abilities oriented toward direct combat. Its main ability increases its attacking efficiency, while its hidden ability can offer an interesting situational bonus depending on the game format. These abilities reinforce its role as a fast striker capable of hitting before the opponent.
On the move side, Barraskewda learns useful Water moves very early, such as Aqua Jet, which benefits from priority, or physical moves that deal consistent damage. It can also learn Crunch, giving it Dark type coverage that is useful against certain Water type weaknesses.

Physical Water moves at a strong power ratio
Level-up moves suited to the adventure's progression
Evolution and team value
Barraskewda evolves from Arrokuda at a certain level. This evolution drastically transforms its impact in battle by strongly boosting its Attack and Speed. For players, Arrokuda is therefore primarily used as a preparation step before this evolution, while still being useful early in the game or in certain limited formats.
On a team, it works well alongside Pokémon capable of setting up rain, which boosts Water type moves and improves its overall effectiveness. It is however vulnerable to its natural weaknesses such as Electric and Grass types, which must be anticipated in the team composition.
Pokémon cards and collecting
Barraskewda also exists as Pokémon cards, often as common or uncommon cards. These cards highlight its Speed and Water moves, with moderate HP and low energy costs. For collectors, it is an accessible card, while for card game players it can serve as a fast basic stage in Water decks.
Max or alternative versions remain rare, but Barraskewda remains a coherent card for completing evolution lines centered on Barraskewda.
