General overview of Ampharos
Ampharos is an Electric type Pokémon from the Johto region. It is the final evolution of Flaaffy, obtained at a certain level after Mareep. Its English name is Ampharos and its Japanese name is デンリュウ. Ampharos is known for the intense light emitted from the tip of its tail, visible from very long distances, which gives it an important role in the Pokédex as a natural beacon.
This Pokémon is particularly appreciated by players for its stability in battle and its excellent Special Attack potential. Ampharos is often used in teams looking for a reliable Electric type, capable of dealing heavy damage while also boasting a solid HP pool.
Type, stats, and evolution
Ampharos is a pure Electric type Pokémon. This specialization allows it to fully exploit moves such as Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, or Power Gem. Its evolution occurs naturally from Flaaffy at a specific level, making it an easy Pokémon to integrate into a team without complex conditions.
In terms of stats, Ampharos stands out with a very high Special Attack, making it an excellent special attacker. Its Defense and HP are decent, allowing it to hold on for several turns in battle. However, its Speed remains low, which often requires strategic anticipation or the use of suitable moves.
Important moves and abilities
Ampharos's moveset is centered on Electric power and type coverage. Thunderbolt remains a safe choice, offering an excellent balance between power and accuracy. Volt Switch is very useful for maintaining battle momentum and enabling strategic rotations. Power Gem provides interesting coverage, particularly against certain resistant types.
Ampharos can learn several moves via TMs, which increases its flexibility. It can also use support moves such as Light Screen, reinforcing the team's Special Defense. This hybrid role between attacker and support makes it a Pokémon highly appreciated in many formats.
Weaknesses and use in battle
Ampharos's main weakness is its vulnerability to Ground type attacks. A well-prepared opponent can exploit this weakness to quickly put it in a difficult position. It is therefore advisable to pair it with Pokémon capable of handling this type of threat.
Despite this, Ampharos excels in prolonged battles where its power and consistency make the difference. Its lack of Speed is compensated by its ability to absorb hits and retaliate with very powerful moves. In certain contexts, it can even play a key role at the end of battle thanks to its reliability.
Role in the Pokédex and trading cards
In the Pokédex, Ampharos is described as a Pokémon whose light is visible for kilometers, once used as a signal. This characteristic is often highlighted in the trading cards, where its illustration showcases the brilliant light of its tail and its role as a maritime beacon.
