Detailed information

General overview of Aipom

Aipom is a Normal-type Pokémon known as Aipom in English and エイパム in Japanese, primarily appreciated for its decent Speed and its utility role across several generations.

Native to the Johto region, Aipom is often encountered at a relatively low level in forested areas or near trees, making it an accessible Pokémon early or mid-adventure. Its design is based on a long tail tipped with a hand, a central element both in the lore and in gameplay.

Type and role in battle

Aipom is a pure Normal-type Pokémon. This type grants it interesting defensive neutrality, with a single notable weakness against the Fighting type. In return, it has no natural resistances, which requires good anticipation during battles.

In battle, Aipom is not oriented toward raw power. It stands out more through its decent Speed and access to several utility moves, allowing it to hinder the opponent or set the stage for the rest of the team.

Base stats and potential

Aipom's stats show a balanced profile but without excelling in any particular area. Its HP remains average, its Attack and Special Attack are limited, while its Speed is its main asset. Its Defense and Special Defense are decent without being exceptional.

This profile makes it an interesting Pokémon early in the game, but one that quickly hits its limits without evolution. IV and EV values can slightly improve its effectiveness, particularly in Speed, but its maximum potential remains moderate.

Available moves, attacks, and HMs

Aipom has a varied movepool focused on mobility and harassment. It learns several Normal-type moves, as well as useful support moves in competitive battles.

  • Fast attack move allowing it to capitalize on its Speed

  • Scratch or basic physical moves to deal constant damage

  • Disruption moves like Taunt or Baby-Doll Eyes depending on the generation

  • Access to certain HMs to facilitate exploration progress

This move set makes Aipom a good choice for a team oriented toward adventure, catching, and smooth progression, even if its DPS remains limited in advanced battles.

Evolution and long-term interest

Aipom evolves into Ambipom when it levels up knowing the Double Hit move. This evolution completely transforms its role, making it much more competitive thanks to noticeably superior Attack and Speed.

Before evolution, Aipom primarily serves as a transition. After evolution, Ambipom becomes a fast and aggressive Pokémon, greatly valued in certain competitive formats thanks to sets based on offensive pressure.

Pokédex information and description

The Pokédex describes Aipom as an extremely skilled Pokémon with its tail. It uses it to hang from branches, manipulate objects, and attack its enemies without exposing its body.

This particularity is directly integrated into its gameplay, with several moves highlighting the use of the tail as a main weapon. Its agile and mischievous behavior is also reflected in its battle animations.

Aipom in cards and collecting

In the trading card game, Aipom appears regularly as a basic card with simple moves consistent with its profile. It is often used as an intermediate stage before evolving into Ambipom.

Shiny versions of Aipom are sought after by collectors, particularly for their subtle color contrast. Certain promotional cards highlight its long-tail design and mischievous look, reinforcing its appeal in a Johto-themed collection.

Strategic use and general assessment

Aipom is not a Pokémon designed to dominate competitive battles. It nevertheless finds its place on a balanced team oriented toward adventure, catching, and smooth progression. Its accessibility, its ability to learn HMs, and its interesting evolution make it a logical choice for many Trainers.

Well used and properly prepared, Aipom can efficiently fill its role before giving way to a far more formidable evolution.
