Overview of Xurkitree
Xurkitree is an Electric-type Pokémon classified as an Ultra Beast. Its English name is Xurkitree and its Japanese name is デンジュモク. It was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, where it represents a life form from another dimension, with an appearance reminiscent of an animated mass of electrical cables.
In the Pokédex, Xurkitree is identified as an extremely dangerous Ultra Beast when it releases too much energy. Its cable-like body allows it to store and discharge powerful electric shocks, making it a formidable Pokémon in battle, though very fragile on the defensive side.
Type and Battle Role
Xurkitree is a pure Electric type, which gives it clear advantages against Water and Flying types, but also a significant weakness to Ground-type moves. In strategic battle, it is primarily used as a special attacker thanks to its extremely high Special Attack stat.
Its role is generally that of a special sweeper. It is capable of applying immediate pressure on the opponent, especially after activating its Beast Boost Ability, which raises its Special Attack after knocking out another Pokémon. This mechanism makes it particularly dangerous in the late game.
Base Stats and Optimization
Xurkitree's base stats are very polarized. Its Special Attack is among the highest in the game, while its HP and Defense remain very low. Its decent Speed allows it to outpace many opponents, especially with the right nature.
For competitive optimization, EVs are generally invested in Special Attack and Speed. Perfect IVs are strongly recommended to maximize its offensive potential. A nature boosting Special Attack or Speed is often favored depending on the chosen set.
Moves and Strategies
Xurkitree has a wide range of very powerful Electric moves, allowing it to make full use of its typing. It can also learn useful coverage moves to surprise certain checks, though its movepool remains broadly oriented toward special offense.
Strategically, it is often run with an item that boosts its power or longevity, in order to secure at least one KO and activate Beast Boost. However, its extreme fragility forces the player to anticipate switches and opposing moves carefully, as a single Ground-type move can be enough to take it out.
Xurkitree in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
In the trading card game, Xurkitree has appeared in several expansions, notably Ultra Prism. Xurkitree GX cards are particularly sought after for their rarity and their high-damage attacks, often linked to Electric Energy.
Xurkitree Pokémon cards highlight its Ultra Beast identity, with specific mechanics and a very distinctive design. They are appreciated by collectors and competitive players alike, especially in Electric-oriented decks.
Availability and Capture
In Pokémon Sun, Moon, and their Ultra versions, Xurkitree is available at a relatively high level, generally after progressing through the main story involving Ultra Wormholes. Catching it can prove tricky due to its high offensive power.
It is advisable to use moves that reduce its HP without knocking it out, while guarding against its electric attacks. Thorough preparation is essential to add this iconic Ultra Beast to your team or complete your Pokédex.
