Overview of Woobat

Woobat is a fifth-generation Pokémon introduced in the Black and White versions. Its English name is Woobat and its Japanese name is コロモリ. Woobat is a Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon, recognizable by its small size, round body, and heart-shaped nose. It is often found in caves and dark areas, where it uses its psychic abilities to navigate and move through the air.

In the Pokédex, Woobat is described as a Pokémon that uses psychic waves emitted from its nose to analyze its surroundings. These waves allow it to avoid obstacles and attack its opponents with precision. For players, Woobat represents an early- to mid-game Pokémon, interesting for its dual type and its unique evolution method.

Type and role in battle

Woobat has the dual Psychic and Flying type, granting it good mobility and access to varied moves. This type allows it to be effective against Fighting and Poison Pokémon, but it remains vulnerable to Electric, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Ghost types. In battle, Woobat is more oriented toward support or fast special attacks, but its fragility calls for a degree of caution.

Thanks to its Flying type, it can avoid certain Ground moves, giving it a slight strategic advantage in some battles. However, its modest defensive stats limit its use against stronger or highly offensive opponents.

Stats and potential

Woobat's base stats are balanced but relatively low compared to those of its evolution. It has adequate HP for a small Pokémon, a decent Special Attack, and a reasonable Speed. However, its physical Attack and Defense remain limited, making it vulnerable to direct attacks.

For players looking to optimize their team, Woobat is mainly used as a stepping stone toward its evolution rather than as a final-stage Pokémon. Its true potential comes out once evolved, but it remains useful for learning certain Psychic and Flying moves from the earliest levels.

Woobat's evolution

Woobat evolves into Swoobat when its friendship level is high enough and it gains a level. This evolution based on friendship encourages players to use Woobat regularly in battle, to avoid letting it faint, and to strengthen the bond with its trainer.

Swoobat then benefits from a clear improvement in its stats, particularly in Special Attack and Speed, making it a far more viable Pokémon in battle. Woobat is therefore primarily considered an essential base for obtaining this evolution.

Moves and strategic use

Woobat can learn various Psychic and Flying moves, as well as a few support abilities. It can use Psychic moves to deal reasonable damage to opponents sensitive to that type, or Flying moves to take advantage of its aerial mobility.

In a strategy-focused context, Woobat is rarely chosen for competitive battles, but it remains interesting in the main adventure or in certain editions where it is available early. Its role is often to weaken the enemy or set the stage before switching to another Pokémon.

Woobat in the games and cards

Woobat is available in several main games and also appears in Pokémon GO, where it is appreciated for its evolution and original design. In the mobile game, it requires Candy to evolve, which pushes players to catch it multiple times.

In the trading card game, Woobat exists in different forms, often depicted as a basic Pokémon with simple but useful attacks in the early game. These cards are primarily of interest to collectors completing Unova-region sets or to players building Psychic or Flying-themed decks.
