General overview of Vullaby

Vullaby is a Pokémon of the Dark and Flying type introduced in the fifth generation. Its English name is Vullaby and its Japanese name is バルチャイ. This Pokémon is known for its distinctive appearance, as it wears a diaper made of bones, often described as a skull, which immediately reinforces its defensive identity in the Pokédex. Vullaby is the counterpart of the Unova region and appears as a Pokémon oriented toward defense, designed to absorb damage rather than attack quickly.

In the Pokédex, Vullaby is often described as a raptor that is clumsy on the ground but capable of defending itself effectively thanks to its plumage and its protective bone covering. This characteristic directly influences its gameplay, both in the main games and in other contexts such as strategic battles or alternative versions.

Stats and gameplay foundation

Vullaby has a base stat spread focused on Defense and Special Defense. Its HP is decent for a basic Pokémon, allowing it to last several turns in battle. However, its Speed is low, making it vulnerable to fast attackers. Its Attack stat remains modest, which often imposes a support or positioning role in battle.

At max level, Vullaby is generally not used as a primary attacker, but rather as an interesting evolutionary stage before reaching its final form. Players often optimize its IV and EV values in Defense to maximize its ability to absorb physical and special attacks.

Available attacks and moves

Vullaby's move set is primarily centered around Dark and Flying type attacks. It can learn moves like Dark Pulse to deal consistent damage, as well as support moves that exploit its solid defensive potential. Certain Flying type attacks based on air or wind allow it to cover common weaknesses.

  • Dark type attacks for progressive offensive pressure

  • Flying type moves for type coverage

  • Defensive techniques to stall out battles

Through TMs, Vullaby can also learn strategically useful attacks in both solo and one-on-one battles, making it an interesting Pokémon to train from the earliest levels.

Evolution and capture methods

Vullaby evolves into Mandibuzz at a certain level. This evolution further reinforces the Pokémon's defensive nature and makes it far more viable in high-level battles. Players often try to catch Vullaby with a good nature from the start in order to optimize its evolution.

Vullaby's catch rate is average, making it accessible during wild encounters on specific routes. It generally appears at a level between 15 and 20 depending on the area, allowing it to be integrated fairly early into a team.

Use in Pokémon GO and trading cards

In Pokémon GO, Vullaby is primarily used as an intermediate stage to obtain its evolved form. Its max CP remains limited, but its defensive stats make it useful in certain specific battles or lower-level raids.

On the trading card side, Vullaby regularly appears as a basic card with defensive abilities or damage-reduction effects. These cards are often used in Dark type-oriented decks, where managing the pace and defense is key to preparing more powerful attacks later on.
