Overview of Sorboul
Sorboul is a Pokémon of the Ice type introduced in the fifth generation. It is known by its English name Vanillish and its Japanese name バニリッチ. It is the direct evolution of Sorbebe, making it a central link in its evolutionary line, before its final transformation. For players, Sorboul represents an important stage as it begins to display more solid stats and a more interesting move set than its pre-evolution.
Visually, Sorboul retains the icy appearance inspired by a frosted cream, but its size increases and its body becomes more massive. This visual evolution is often reflected in the cards, where its more imposing and colder aspect is highlighted by ice and snow effects.
Type, Role, and In-Game Utility
Type and Resistances
Sorboul is exclusively of the Ice type. This type grants it good offensive effectiveness against Dragon, Ground, Flying, and Grass types, but also notable weaknesses against Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel attacks. In strategic battles, it is therefore essential to anticipate opposing type changes carefully.
Its primary role is offensive special. Compared to Sorbebe, it has a better stat base, particularly in Special Attack, making it more effective from the intermediate levels onward.
Level and Evolutions
Sorboul evolves from Sorbebe, then itself evolves into Vanilluxe starting at level 47. This late evolution encourages players to use Sorboul for a fairly long period of the game, particularly in versions set in Unova.
From a certain level onward, its Ice moves gain in power and become genuinely threatening, making it a good temporary choice before the final evolution.
Notable Moves and Abilities
Main Moves
Sorboul naturally learns several Ice-type moves such as Powder Snow, Icy Wind, and Ice Beam. These moves fully benefit from its type and are very useful for dealing consistent damage, particularly against Flying or Dragon-type Pokémon.
It can also learn support moves that slow down the opponent or apply sustained pressure, which is interesting in solo battles or low-level raids.
Strategic Abilities
Depending on its nature and IVs, Sorboul can be oriented toward a more offensive or more balanced style. Although its Defense remains average, it can withstand a few hits if resistances are well exploited. EVs invested in Special Attack and Speed are generally preferred.
Pokédex Information and Physical Data
Height and Weight
Sorboul measures approximately 1.1 meters, making it noticeably larger than Sorbebe. Its weight remains relatively light despite its massive appearance, which is consistent with its icy composition.
These characteristics are often reflected in Pokédex descriptions, highlighting its body made of compressed ice and its close connection to snowstorms.
Capture and Availability
Sorboul is generally available in snowy or cold areas, often at an intermediate level around level 40 depending on the version. Its catch rate is decent, allowing players to add it to their team fairly easily if they are well prepared.
Sorboul in the Pokémon Card Game
Cards and Representations
In the Pokémon card game, Sorboul is often depicted in icy settings or under a snowstorm. The cards highlight its Ice-type moves and its direct connection to Sorbebe and Vanillish, reinforcing the cohesion of its evolutionary line.
Sorboul Pokémon cards are appreciated by collectors for their wintry aesthetic. Certain editions may command a slightly higher price depending on the generation, the illustration, and the card's condition.
Collector Interest
Although it is not considered a legendary card, Sorboul remains sought after to complete evolutionary families. Its presence across several generations and expansions reinforces its appeal, particularly for collectors focused on Ice-type Pokémon.
