Detailed information

General overview of Treecko

Treecko is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in the third generation in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Treecko and its Japanese name is キモリ. It is the Grass-type starter Pokémon in Ruby and Sapphire, making it a very popular choice for players right from the start of the adventure.

In the Pokédex, Treecko is described as a small green gecko capable of climbing walls thanks to its adhesive feet. Its tail helps it keep balance and react quickly in battle. Its modest size and light weight make it a fast Pokémon that is difficult to hit.

Stats and battle potential

The base stats of Treecko are geared toward Speed rather than raw power. It has decent HP for a starter Pokémon, but its Defense remains limited, requiring a strategic approach to battle.

  • High Speed from the first levels

  • Modest Attack and Special Attack

  • Relatively low Defense and Special Defense

  • Overall stats suited to fast-paced battles

Thanks to its Speed, Treecko can often attack first, which is a key advantage in battles against other small Pokémon. On the other hand, it must avoid Fire, Ice, Poison and Flying-type moves, which exploit its weaknesses.

Grass type and available moves

As a Grass-type Pokémon, Treecko naturally learns several moves based on seeds and leaves. These moves are effective against Water, Rock and Ground types, which are very common in the early hours of the game.

  • Grass-type moves focused on gradual damage

  • Moves that increase Speed or Defense

  • Fast acquisition of useful moves through leveling up

With TMs, Treecko can broaden its moveset and adapt to different battle styles. This makes it interesting for players looking to optimize their team right from the start.

Evolution and long-term interest

Treecko evolves into Grovyle at a certain level, then into Sceptile, a far more powerful Pokémon oriented toward Speed and Attack. This gradual evolution allows Treecko to remain in the team for a long time without losing efficiency.

At its final stage, Sceptile can access a Mega form in certain games, which greatly increases its power and modifies its stats. This Mega Evolution reinforces its offensive role and makes it a highly valued Pokémon in strategic battles.

Catch rate and practical information

Treecko's catch rate is relatively standard for a starter Pokémon, meaning it is generally only obtained at the beginning of the adventure. It is not found in the wild in the classic Ruby and Sapphire versions.

In more recent video games and certain features such as Pokémon GO or specific raids, Treecko may be available during events. Breeding is possible once it has evolved, allowing new Treecko to be obtained with different IVs and an optimized nature.

Collectible cards and popularity

Treecko also exists as a Pokémon card, often depicted as a small agile green gecko. These cards are appreciated by collectors, especially those from the earliest expansions tied to Hoenn.

Thanks to its simple design, its clear Pokédex entry and its role as a starter, Treecko remains an iconic Pokémon for many players. It combines accessibility, Speed and evolutionary potential, which explains its lasting popularity in the Pokémon universe.
