Thievul is a Dark-type Pokémon introduced in the Galar region. Its Japanese name is フォクスライ. It is the direct evolution of Nickit, accessible from level 18, making it a Pokémon obtainable fairly early in the adventure.

In the Pokédex, Thievul is described as a cunning fox specialized in stealth, deception, and evasion. It relies more on cunning and Speed than on raw Defense, which strongly influences its strategic use in battle.

Type, weaknesses, and resistances

Thievul is a pure Dark-type Pokémon. This typing grants it a full immunity to Psychic moves, which is very useful against opponents built around Special Attack.

Thievul evolves from Nickit at level 18 with no additional conditions. This simple evolution allows it to be quickly integrated into a team in Sword and Shield.

Regarding Eggs, Thievul belongs to the Field Egg Group. It can therefore be bred easily to obtain optimized stats, a suitable nature, or a Shiny Pokémon through hatching.

Availability and capture in the games

Thievul is available in the wild in several areas of Galar, particularly in plains and certain routes accessible at night. Weather conditions can influence its appearance, though it remains generally accessible without complex mechanics.

It can also be obtained through evolution, which remains the most reliable method for adding it to the Pokédex quickly.

Strategic usage and limitations

In battle, Thievul suffers from a lack of consistent damage output and Defense that is too low to hold up over time. It does, however, find its place in control-oriented teams, thanks to moves that lower opposing stats or force switches.

In Sword and Shield, it is rarely seen in high-level competitive play, but remains perfectly viable in story mode or thematic teams built around the Dark type.

Cards and collector interest

Thievul has several cards in the Pokémon TCG, often focused on draw effects, disruption, or conditional damage. Its Shiny version is particularly appreciated for its striking color contrast, which enhances its appeal among collectors.

While it is not considered a meta-defining card, Thievul retains definite interest for completing sets tied to Galar or to Dark-type Pokémon.
