General overview of Talonflame
Talonflame is a Fire and Flying type Pokémon introduced in Generation XY. Its English name is Talonflame and its Japanese name is ファイアロー. As the final evolution of Fletchinder, Talonflame is an extremely fast raptor that made a profound mark on the competitive scene from the moment of its release, thanks to its aggressive combat style and its wings capable of producing intense flames.
In the Pokédex, Talonflame is described as a formidable aerial hunter capable of diving on its prey at very high speed. Its design highlights its red and black plumage, its large wings, and its hawk-like Fire appearance. It is often used by players looking for an offensive Pokémon capable of applying immediate pressure on the opponent.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
Talonflame has a dual Fire and Flying typing. This type gives it solid resistances against Grass, Bug, Fighting, and Steel moves, making it effective against many common opponents. On the other hand, its weaknesses are very pronounced, especially against Rock, Water, and Electric moves, with an extreme vulnerability to Rock moves that deal heavy damage.
In battle, this combination calls for careful management of when to switch in, as entry hazards such as Stealth Rock can drastically reduce its HP before it even attacks.
Base stats and battle role
Talonflame's base stats are oriented toward Attack and Speed. Its Attack is high, allowing it to fully exploit powerful physical moves, while its Defense is decent without being exceptional. Its natural Speed is good, but it is above all its signature ability that made Talonflame famous in competitive play.
Thanks to its wings, it can adopt the role of offensive sweeper or finisher in battle. Its low HP total, however, calls for thoughtful and often aggressive play in order to maximize its impact before being knocked out.
Key moves and TMs
Talonflame's movepool is centered on Fire and Flying moves. Among its most commonly used moves are Brave Bird, an extremely powerful Flying move, and Flare Blitz, which fully exploits its Fire type and high Attack. These moves deal heavy damage but come with recoil, which makes HP management all the more important.
Talonflame also learns several useful TMs such as Roost for recovery, Flame Charge to raise its Speed, and Swords Dance to boost its offensive potential. These options make it a very flexible Pokémon when building a competitive set.
Evolution and how to obtain
Talonflame is the final evolution of Fletchling followed by Fletchinder. It evolves from Fletchinder at a relatively accessible level, allowing players to integrate it fairly early in their team during a playthrough of the XY games and beyond. Its evolution marks a clear power leap, both in terms of stats and available moves.
In recent games and in Pokémon GO, Talonflame remains an appreciated choice for raids and certain battles, though its weaknesses must be taken into account against specific opponents.
Pokémon cards and popularity
Talonflame has several Pokémon cards that highlight its speed and power. These cards are often sought after by collectors, particularly those from the XY expansions, where it was one of the most popular Fire Pokémon. Some versions stand out for their immediate attacks and ability to deal fast damage right from the start of a battle.
Thanks to its striking design and historical impact on the competitive scene, Talonflame remains an iconic Pokémon, both for players and for trading card enthusiasts.
