Detailed information
General overview of Swadloon
Swadloon is a Bug and Grass-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its English name is Swadloon and its Japanese name is クルマユ. It is the direct evolution of Sewaddle and an intermediate stage before its final evolution. Swadloon is often considered an understated Pokémon, but it holds very useful information for players who wish to complete their Pokédex or build a defensively oriented strategic team.
Visually, Swadloon stands out for the leaf mantle it crafts itself. This plant wrapping is not purely aesthetic — it also plays an important role in its battle style and in how it protects itself from damage. In the main games, this Pokémon is most often encountered in forested areas and routes rich in vegetation.
General information and evolution
Swadloon evolves from Sewaddle starting at level 20. Its next evolution, Leavanny, does not depend on a specific level but rather on reaching maximum friendship. This evolution mechanic encourages players to interact more with their Pokémon, by having it battle, avoiding repeated knockouts, and using items that promote affection.
In the Pokédex, Swadloon is described as a calm Pokémon that dislikes moving unnecessarily. It prefers to remain still, well sheltered within its leaves, which is directly reflected in its stats, which are oriented toward defense rather than raw offense.
Stats and strategic orientation
Swadloon has modest stats, with a clear emphasis on Defense and Special Defense. Its HP remain decent for an intermediate Pokémon, but its Speed is very low. This makes it a poor fit for fast-paced battles, but an interesting option in strategies based on stalling or positioning.
In terms of EVs, players often choose to invest in HP and Defense in order to maximize its ability to absorb attacks. Its Attack and overall power remain limited, making Swadloon more of a utility Pokémon than a genuinely offensive one.
Available moves and movements
Swadloon's moveset relies primarily on Grass and Bug-type attacks. It can learn leaf-based moves, ideal for dealing progressive damage, as well as support moves. Some attacks can lower opposing stats or bolster its own Defense.
Through TMs and level-up moves, Swadloon can access interesting strategic moves to hinder the opponent. It is not designed to deal massive damage, but rather to endure on the field and set up the battle for its allies.
Swadloon in the Pokémon cards
The Swadloon Pokémon card is often appreciated by collectors for its original design and its direct connection to nature. Depending on the expansion, it can be found in series like Sun or products linked to emerging powers. Its price generally remains accessible, making it an easy card to obtain to complete a collection.
In card form, Swadloon retains its defensive identity, with low-energy attacks and effects focused on protection or damage reduction. It exists in several versions, from the standard format to shiny cards, making it available both for play and for collecting.
Use and main strengths
Swadloon is a Pokémon that appeals first and foremost to patient players. Its strengths lie in its ability to absorb hits, stall, and evolve into a far more effective final form. Well used, it can serve as a solid transition piece on a Grass or Bug team, particularly during the main adventure.
Whether for completing the Pokédex, preparing a strategic evolution, or enriching a card collection, Swadloon remains a small Pokémon that offers interesting possibilities for attentive players.
