Detailed information

General overview of Snorunt

Snorunt is a Ice-type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Snorunt and its Japanese name is ユキワラシ. It is a Pokémon often associated with snowy areas and cold routes, which strongly influences its capture conditions in the games. Snorunt holds number 361 in the National Pokédex and represents an interesting foundation for players seeking a strategic evolution path depending on gender and items used.

Small in stature, Snorunt measures approximately 0.7 meters and weighs close to 16.8 kg. Its simple appearance, with its snowy cloak and yellow eyes, makes it easily recognizable. In battle it is rather fragile, but it serves mainly as a stepping stone toward much more powerful evolutions such as Glalie or Froslass.

Base stats and battle role

Snorunt's base stats are modest, placing it among Pokémon suited for early game or pre-evolution support. It has a balanced but low base with relatively low HP, Attack, and Defense. Its decent Speed does however allow it to land certain attacks before the opponent at low levels.

Snorunt is not designed to stay in battle for long at level 50 or at the maximum level. Its main interest lies in its evolution potential. In the meantime, it can be used in the early hours of the game or in certain challenges where evolutions are not permitted.

Ice type and weaknesses

As an Ice-type Pokémon, Snorunt is vulnerable to several common types such as Fire, Fighting, Steel, and Rock. These weaknesses must be taken into account during battles, particularly in gyms or low-level raids. In return, it resists the Ice type, which can be useful in snowy areas where wild encounters often share this type.

Available moves and abilities

Snorunt mainly learns Ice and Normal-type moves as it levels up. Among its notable moves are Powder Snow, Icy Wind, and Aurora Beam, which deal decent damage while benefiting from the type bonus. Certain status moves can also slow down or disrupt the opponent, which is useful in tactical battles.

Through TMs, Snorunt can expand its moveset with utility attacks, even if its offensive potential remains limited before evolution. It is advisable not to invest too many EV resources or optimization until evolution is planned.

Snorunt's evolution

Snorunt's evolution is one of its most interesting aspects. From level 42, it can evolve into Glalie, regardless of its gender. This evolution brings a massive gain in power, Defense, and versatility, making the Pokémon far more viable in battle.

If Snorunt is female and uses a Dawn Stone, it can evolve into Froslass. This Ice and Ghost form is highly regarded for its Speed and its access to strategic moves. The choice of evolution therefore strongly depends on the desired gameplay style and the version of the game being used.

Capture and in-game availability

Snorunt is generally available in snowy areas, often at a variable encounter rate depending on the game version. It frequently appears at night or during snowfall in certain generations. Its capture poses no major difficulty, even at low levels, as long as non-lethal moves are used.

In Pokémon GO, Snorunt is also available, often during events related to Ice or winter. It can be found in the wild or obtained via eggs during certain periods.

Snorunt in the Pokémon trading card game

In the Pokémon trading card game, Snorunt is often represented as a basic card with simple, low-energy attacks. These cards are mainly used in Ice-themed decks or as transition cards. They are generally easy to obtain and inexpensive on the market.

Certain illustrations highlight the snowy environment and the Pokémon's discreet appearance, making it a card appreciated by collectors, even if its value remains modest compared to its evolutions.
