Skwovet is a Pokémon of the Normal type introduced in the Galar region. It is known as Skwovet in English and ホシガリス in Japanese. This small rodent Pokémon is immediately recognizable by its puffed-up cheeks, filled with Berries it permanently stores to survive and fight.

Skwovet appears from the earliest levels in Pokémon Sword, Shield, Pokémon Scarlet, and Pokémon Violet. It is designed as an early-game Pokémon, straightforward to use, with a core mechanic based on Berry management and HP recovery.

Type, role, and strategic basis

Skwovet is a pure Normal-type Pokémon. This type gives it only one weakness to the Fighting type and a full immunity to the Ghost type, which can be exploited intelligently in battle against certain opponents.

Its base stats are oriented toward HP. It has a solid pool of hit points for its level, but relatively modest Attack and Defense. Its stat spread destines it more toward tanking and stalling rather than dealing heavy damage.

Thanks to this ability, it can recover HP as soon as its gauge drops below a certain threshold, making battles longer and more stable. In double battles, this mechanic can be exploited with items or partners that trigger or recycle Berries.

Evolution and progression

Skwovet has a direct evolution. It evolves into Greedent upon reaching a certain level. This evolution noticeably improves its defensive stats and further reinforces its role based on storing and consuming Berries.

This evolution is automatic and requires neither a specific item nor a special condition, which makes progression easy for beginner players.

Skwovet exists in several versions of Pokémon cards. It appears mainly in basic sets, often with Common rarity. Some cards highlight its connection to Berries, through effects allowing the player to draw cards, recover HP, or interact with items.

For collectors, Skwovet is not a high-value card financially, but it remains appreciated for its expressive design and its iconic role in the Galar generation. Certain promotional cards or alternate versions may, however, generate particular interest.

Stats and optimization

In terms of EVs, Skwovet is generally optimized for HP in order to maximize the effectiveness of its abilities and items. A secondary spread in Defense can improve its overall bulk, particularly against physical attacks.

It is rarely used in advanced competitive strategy, but remains entirely viable in a standard playthrough or in formats oriented toward fun and progression.
