Detailed information

General overview of Shuppet

Shuppet is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Shuppet and its Japanese name is カゲボウズ. It is recognizable by its appearance as a dark floating doll, directly tied to negative emotions and shadow. In the Pokédex, Shuppet is described as a Pokémon that feeds on jealousy and resentment, which strongly influences its behavior in battle and its place in the legends of the Hoenn region.

Shuppet holds number 353 in the National Pokédex. It measures approximately 0.6 meters and weighs close to 2.3 kg, making it a light and discreet Pokémon often encountered at night. Its simple form hides interesting strategic potential, particularly before it evolves into Banette.

Base stats and useful information

Shuppet's base stats are oriented toward Special Attack and Speed, at the expense of Defense and HP. This distribution makes it a fragile Pokémon but one capable of dealing decent damage if used well. IVs and EVs play an important role in optimizing its effectiveness, especially in strategic battles.

  • Modest base HP, requiring good anticipation

  • Decent Attack for a basic Pokémon

  • Low Defense and Special Defense

  • Average Speed allowing it to act before certain opponents

The chosen nature strongly influences its performance. A nature boosting Attack or Speed is often favored to exploit its offensive potential.

Ghost type and battle effectiveness

The Ghost type grants Shuppet interesting immunities, particularly against Normal and Fighting-type moves. However, it remains vulnerable to Ghost and Dark-type attacks. This duality requires good battle reading to avoid direct counters.

In battle, Shuppet is mainly used as an offensive support Pokémon. It can hinder the opponent with shadow and night-based moves, while preparing the field for more resilient allies.

Moves, abilities, and TMs

Shuppet learns several iconic Ghost-type moves as it levels up. Shadow Sneak is one of its most useful moves, allowing it to strike with priority. It can also learn Shadow Ball, Spite, and Night Shade, reinforcing its shadow-based identity.

  • Shadow Sneak to attack with priority

  • Shadow Ball for consistent damage

  • Will-O-Wisp to lower the opponent's Attack

  • Spite to disrupt the opponent's moves

TMs broaden its offensive and tactical range, giving it access to useful options depending on the chosen battle format.

Capture, evolution, and strategic use

Shuppet's catch rate is relatively standard, making it easy to obtain in the areas where it appears, often at night or in shadow-filled locations. It evolves into Banette from a certain level onward, gaining in power and presence on the battlefield.

Before evolving, Shuppet is mainly recommended for building a team focused on the Ghost type or for completing the Pokédex. With targeted EV training, it can nonetheless surprise in certain battles, particularly by dealing rapid damage before switching out.
