General overview of Sharpedo
Sharpedo is a Water and Dark-type Pokémon introduced in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Sharpedo and its Japanese name is サメハダー. This brutal Pokémon is the direct evolution of Carvanha and appears in the Pokédex as an extremely aggressive marine predator. Sharpedo is known for its impressive speed in the seas, capable of reaching around 120 km/h, making it an excellent offensive choice for players seeking immediate pressure.
In the Ruby, Sapphire, Black, and White games, Sharpedo stands out with a very offensive approach and few defensive compromises. It is often used as a physical or mixed sweeper depending on the chosen moveset, but it demands good anticipation since its HP and Defense remain limited.
Stats and combat potential
Sharpedo's stats are clearly oriented toward Attack and Speed. Its high Attack allows it to fully exploit its Water and Dark moves, while its decent Speed becomes fearsome thanks to certain abilities and items. In contrast, its Defense and Special Defense are low, which forces Sharpedo to be played aggressively.
High Attack ideal for moves like Crunch or Waterfall
Very decent Speed, bolstered in certain competitive contexts
Low HP and Defense, requiring a safe switch-in
EVs often spread across Attack and Speed
Sharpedo is often played with an offensive nature in order to maximize its raw power. Players favor a strategy based on fast pressure rather than longevity.
Moves and strategic type
Sharpedo's dual Water and Dark typing gives it excellent offensive coverage. It can threaten many types while remaining vulnerable to Fighting, Bug, Electric, and Fairy moves depending on the generation. Its movepool allows it to use powerful physical moves as well as a few special options.
Waterfall for reliable Water STAB
Crunch or Bite to exploit the Dark type
Hydro Pump in more surprise-oriented sets
Ice Fang for coverage against Grass and Dragon types
Sharpedo also learns several useful TMs and HMs, which makes it easy to integrate into a team during the main adventure as well as in more advanced competitive play.
Evolution and special forms
Sharpedo evolves from Carvanha at a relatively accessible level, allowing it to be obtained fairly early in the Hoenn games. This evolution brings a massive gain in Attack and Speed, transforming a small predator into a true marine threat.
Sharpedo also has a Mega form that further boosts its offensive potential. Mega Evolution greatly improves its stats and accentuates its role as a Pokémon capable of breaking through opposing teams, but it requires precise timing management.
Sharpedo in the TCG
In the Pokémon TCG, Sharpedo is often depicted as a fast and aggressive attacker. The cards highlight its ferocity, its fangs, and its streamlined body, with moves that deal heavy damage in few turns. Certain Sharpedo cards leverage mechanics linked to speed or sacrificing HP to increase power.

Useful information for players
Sharpedo is an excellent choice for players who enjoy offensive and risky playstyles. It excels in short battles and can turn a situation around when well positioned. In the Pokédex, it is described as an relentless hunter that never lets go of its prey — a description faithful to its gameplay.
Whether for the main adventure, competitive battles, or card collecting, Sharpedo remains a Pokémon that stands out for its speed, power, and identity as a fearsome sea shark.
