Salazzle is a Fire and Poison type Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation. Its Japanese name is エンニュート, reflecting its direct connection to heat, flames, and toxins. It is the evolution of Salandit, but only when that Pokémon is female — a very important point to know for players trying to obtain it. In the Pokédex, Salazzle carries number 758 and stands out for a battle style heavily oriented toward Special Attack and poison harassment.

Type, stats, and strategic foundation

The dual Fire and Poison type gives Salazzle a unique offensive profile. It resists several common types and can surprise many opponents in battle. Its base stats clearly emphasize Speed and Special Attack, at the cost of HP and Defense. This makes it a fragile but extremely dangerous Pokémon when it attacks first.

In terms of base stats, Salazzle has high Speed, ideal for outpacing many Pokémon at level 50. Its Special Attack allows it to fully exploit powerful Fire and Poison moves. However, its HP and Defense remain low, requiring careful and anticipatory play.

Moves and battle style

Salazzle's moveset is designed for offensive play. It can learn numerous Fire moves such as Fire Blast, Flamethrower, and Inferno, which take full advantage of its excellent Special Attack. On the Poison side, Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb are fearsome options for dealing heavy damage and poisoning the opponent.

Salazzle can also use support moves such as Toxic, Disable, and Nasty Plot, further increasing its pressure in battle. Thanks to its Speed, it can set up a Nasty Plot and become extremely dangerous within just a few turns. This playstyle makes it very popular in strategic battles.

EVs, nature, and optimization

For effective optimization, EVs are generally invested in Special Attack and Speed. This allows Salazzle to fully exploit its natural strengths. A Timid nature is often recommended to further increase Speed, or a Modest nature to maximize offensive power.

This choice depends on the battle format and the opponents faced. In competitive play, outspeeding the opponent is often more important than a few extra points of power.

Catching, evolution, and breeding

Catching Salandit can be tricky due to its spawn rate and especially the rarity of females. Only females can evolve into Salazzle, which makes obtaining it a lengthier process for some players. Once caught, Salandit evolves into Salazzle simply by gaining one level.

Regarding breeding, Salazzle can produce Salandit Eggs. This is useful for seeking good IVs or a specific nature. However, male Salandit will never evolve, which remains a classic pitfall for less experienced players.

In-game utility and collectible cards

In the main games, Salazzle is primarily used for its ability to quickly deal damage and poison even Pokémon that are normally immune. Its ability allows it to poison Steel and Poison types, which completely changes certain matchups.

On the card side, Salazzle is often depicted as a fast and cunning Pokémon, with effects linked to poison or gradual damage. These cards are appreciated in decks focused on attrition and pace control.
