General overview of Remoraid

Remoraid is a Pokémon of the Water type introduced in the second generation. It is known by the English name Remoraid and the Japanese name Teppouo. This Pokémon is inspired by a small fish capable of shooting water with great precision, a central element of its identity both in the Pokédex and in gameplay.

Remoraid holds number 223 in the National Pokédex. It is mainly found in aquatic areas such as rivers, beaches, or the sea depending on the version. It is often accessible via a Rod or a Good Rod, making it a relatively simple Pokémon to catch for players in the early or mid stages of their adventure.

Stats and combat characteristics

Remoraid's stats are oriented toward Special Attack, which matches its style based on long-range water shots. Its HP remains modest and its Defense is fairly low, which forces players to avoid prolonged battles. However, its natural accuracy and quick access to good Water type moves allow it to be effective at low levels.

Remoraid has good EV potential in Special Attack and Speed, which can be interesting for optimization in solo battles. Its nature strongly influences its performance, particularly to maximize damage output or slightly improve its defensive frailty.

Type, weaknesses, and resistances

As a Water type, Remoraid naturally resists Water, Ice, Fire, and Steel type attacks. However, it is weak to Grass and Electric type attacks. These weaknesses must be taken into account during battles against trainers or in the league.

It can learn Ice type moves via TM, which allows it to surprise certain Grass or Dragon opponents, despite its overall fragility.

Notable moves and attacks

Remoraid learns moves like Water Gun, Water Pulse, or Aurora Beam very early depending on the generation. These moves take full advantage of its decent Special Attack and high accuracy. Later, it can access more powerful moves via TMs, noticeably increasing its combat power.

Its move pool also includes support or coverage moves, allowing for a versatile moveset during the adventure. The PP count remains sufficient to chain battles without frequently returning to the Pokémon Center.

Evolution and strategic value

Remoraid evolves into Octillery at a certain level, which marks a real jump in power. The evolution strongly improves HP, Attack, and Special Attack, transforming a fragile Pokémon into a formidable attacker. For this reason, Remoraid is often caught with the direct goal of evolving it.

Before evolving, it remains a good temporary choice to cover the Water type on a team, especially if the player does not yet have access to a more robust Water type Pokémon.

Remoraid in cards and other modes

In the Pokémon trading card game, Remoraid regularly appears as a basic card used to set up the evolution into Octillery. These cards are often focused on search, accuracy, or support, reflecting its strategic role rather than its raw power.

In Pokémon GO, Remoraid is appreciated for its ease of capture and its decent spawn rate near bodies of water. It allows players to quickly gather Candy to evolve Octillery and optimize its maximum CP.

Additional information and useful details

Remoraid can be male or female and is compatible with breeding in the appropriate aquatic egg groups. It sometimes holds a Berry in the wild depending on the version, which can be a bonus when catching it.

Its modest size and simple appearance make it a discreet Pokémon, but its effectiveness depends largely on how it is trained and integrated into a balanced team.
