General overview of Natu

Natu is a Pokémon of the Psychic and Flying types introduced in the second generation. Its English name is Natu and its Japanese name is ネイティ. This Pokémon is best known as the first stage of Xatu's evolution, a creature far more oriented toward strategic combat. In the Pokédex, Natu is described as a small, mysterious bird capable of foreseeing certain events thanks to its psychic powers.

For players, Natu represents an early or transitional Pokémon. It is rarely used as-is in advanced battles, but remains interesting for preparing an efficient evolution and optimizing Xatu's final stats. Its presence across several versions of the game makes it a relatively accessible Pokémon.

Type and gameplay profile

Natu has the dual combination of Psychic and Flying. This type grants it useful resistances, particularly against Fighting and Psychic attacks, but also several significant weaknesses such as Electric, Ice, Rock, and Dark. These weaknesses limit its effectiveness in direct confrontation.

In a gameplay context, Natu is rarely kept long in a team. It serves mainly as a training base to quickly reach its evolution. Its type nonetheless remains interesting for anticipating specific encounters early in the adventure.

Stats and potential

Natu's stats are modest and reflect its status as an unevolved Pokémon. Its strengths lie more in Special Attack than in Defense or HP. Its Speed is decent without being remarkable, making it vulnerable to fast opponents.

The base values are clearly oriented toward long-term progression. Players looking to optimize EVs often focus on Special Attack and Speed in order to prepare a competitive Xatu. At low levels, performance remains limited and requires a degree of caution.

Moves and abilities

Natu learns mainly Psychic and Flying type moves. It can access moves like Confusion or Peck fairly early, allowing it to cover several enemy types. Certain support moves enhance its utility, even if its endurance remains low.

Through TMs, Natu can also learn additional moves that are interesting for strategy, such as Protect or Calm Mind depending on the generation. These options are primarily aimed at preparing its evolution rather than fully exploiting Natu in prolonged combat.

Evolution and progression

Natu evolves into Xatu at a certain level, generally level 25 depending on the version. This evolution marks a real shift in power and role within the team. Xatu benefits from much more balanced stats and broader access to strategic moves.

It is advisable to evolve Natu quickly so as not to waste time with a fragile Pokémon. However, some players prefer to wait for it to learn specific moves before evolving in order to optimize the final moveset.

Natu in the Pokédex and trading cards

In the Pokédex, Natu is often presented as an observant Pokémon, capable of remaining motionless for long periods. This description reinforces its mystical image and its connection to psychic powers.

On the trading card side, Natu generally appears as a basic card. It is often used in evolution decks or as support to access Xatu. Its value is generally low on the market, but certain editions may interest collectors completing specific sets.
