Detailed information

General overview of Mudbray

Mudbray is a Ground type Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation. It is known by its Japanese name ドロバンコ. This donkey Pokémon stands out for its natural robustness and its excellent Defense, making it an interesting choice for players looking for a reliable Pokémon in battle and team progression.

Pokédex identity and data

In the Pokédex, Mudbray is described as a Pokémon capable of carrying extremely heavy loads without slowing its pace. Its body is covered in dried mud, which increases its resistance to physical attacks. Its high weight plays an important role in certain moves and directly influences its raw power. Mudbray exists in male and female forms, with no visible stat difference between the two.

Type, Abilities, and immunities

Mudbray is exclusively Ground type, which grants it an immunity to Electric type moves. This type also gives it good defensive synergy against many common threats. Its Abilities include Own Tempo, which prevents confusion, as well as hidden Abilities oriented towards durability in battle. These Abilities reinforce its role as a physical wall, especially in the early game in Pokémon Sun, Moon, Sword, and Shield.

Base stats and strategic potential

Mudbray's base stats clearly emphasise Defense and HP. Its Attack remains decent, allowing it to deal consistent damage without relying solely on special moves. Its Speed is low, which requires trainers to adapt their battle pace. However, this slowness is offset by excellent staying power over time. IVs and EVs are often invested in HP and Defense to maximise its effectiveness.

Moves and available abilities

Mudbray naturally learns Ground type moves based on mud and stomping, often using its powerful hooves to strike its target. It can also learn moves via TMs, broadening its offensive and defensive options. Certain moves can lower the opponent's Defense or control the pace of battle over several turns, which is very useful against fast-paced teams.

Evolution, breeding, and obtaining

Mudbray evolves into Mudsdale from a certain level onwards, drastically increasing its power and overall stats. Breeding is possible via Eggs, allowing nature and IVs to be optimised from birth. Mudbray can be encountered on various routes depending on the version, notably in the Wild Area of Galar and around the Paniola Ranch. Its encounter rate is reasonable, making it easy to integrate quickly into a team.

Pokémon cards and collector interest

In the card game, Mudbray appears on several cards highlighting its Defense and endurance. These cards are often used in control- or slow-paced decks. Even if it is not the most sought-after card, it remains appreciated by collectors for its design and its close ties to mud and raw power.
