Detailed information

Overview of Mr. Mime

Mr. Mime is a Psychic and Fairy-type Pokémon in recent generations, initially a pure Psychic type. Its Japanese name is バリヤード (Barrierd). This mime Pokémon uses its body to create invisible walls and protective zones in battle. Players often encounter it at a fairly low level or via a trade, and it has a special evolution from Mime Jr. when it knows the move Mimic. Its Pokédex entries emphasize its mastery of gestures, its theatrical style, and its ability to generate barriers stronger than a normal wall.

With a weight of around 54 kg and a modest size, Mr. Mime stands out mainly for its relatively high Special Defense and Speed stats for a non-offensive Pokémon. In battle, this allows it to avoid a great deal of damage, particularly against Psychic, Fairy, or Grass-type moves, while taking advantage of its special attacks such as Confusion, Psychic, Psywave, or Psybeam. Its weaknesses are typical for its type: it takes ×2 damage from Ghost and Steel types, as well as Poison-type attacks. Conversely, it resists Psychic and Fighting attacks well.

Useful information for the Pokémon game

Stats and role in battle

Mr. Mime is generally used as a special support Pokémon thanks to its stats focused on Special Defense and Speed. Its special base stat ensures solid offensive output on Psychic attacks. In EVs, players often invest in HP and Special Defense to turn it into an effective Psychic wall. It adapts well to double battles thanks to protective and positioning moves. Even if its physical Attack is low, its special moves more than compensate for this weakness.

Best moves and abilities

In most games, Mr. Mime has access to a wide set of Psychic, Fairy, and Ice moves. Among the most useful in battle:

  • Psychic to deal reliable special damage

  • Confusion or Psywave for a quick, PP-efficient opener

  • Shadow Ball to broaden coverage against Ghost or Psychic types

  • Light Screen or Reflect to support your team

  • Mimic, essential for evolving Mime Jr.

It can also use Fairy Wind or Magical Leaf depending on the generation, which enhances its support role. The TMs available in the games allow it to obtain Ice or Fire moves, useful for countering Grass or Steel opponents in a complex resistance chart.

Evolution and breeding

Mime Jr. evolves into Mr. Mime when it has learned the move Mimic, making it a conditional evolution rather than one tied to a specific level. In breeding, Mime Jr. can inherit several egg moves oriented around support or mental defense. The regional variant Galarian Mr. Mime follows a different path with its own evolution, but in a page focused on standard Mr. Mime, the main evolution line remains Mime Jr. → Mr. Mime.

Tips for Pokémon cards

Mr. Mime's role in the TCG

In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Mr. Mime is often represented as a support Pokémon with damage prevention and control abilities. Depending on the version, its cards protect against direct attacks, limit damage to the Bench, or prevent the opponent from using certain combat zones. Players sometimes seek out these cards to complete a set focused on defense or disruption.

Some Mr. Mime cards offer effects that copy enemy moves or cancel attacks, which can catch opponents off guard during a match. Its rare cards, especially those from older generations or special sets, retain good collection value for completing a Psychic Pokémon lineup.
