Overview of Komala
Komala is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation. Its English name is Komala and its Japanese name is ネッコアラ. This Pokémon is known for its permanent state of sleep, a central element of its identity both in the Pokédex and in battles. Despite its peaceful appearance, Komala can deal very serious damage when used correctly.
Komala always carries a log, which is an integral part of its battle style and attacks. It has no evolution, making it a Pokémon with a single form, usable directly without going through an intermediate stage. Its modest size and deceptive appearance conceal an interesting offensive potential for strategic players.
Pokédex Information
The Pokédex states that Komala spends its entire life asleep. Thanks to its signature Ability, it is considered to be permanently asleep, which directly influences its interactions in battle. This particular status makes it immune to many classic status conditions.
Its National Pokédex number is #775. Komala is classified as a pure Normal-type Pokémon, giving it a single main weakness against Fighting-type attacks. In return, it has no complex elemental weaknesses, making it easier to integrate into certain balanced teams.
Base Stats and EVs
Komala's base stats are geared toward Attack. Its HP are decent without being exceptional, but its physical Attack is clearly its strongest point. Its Defense and Special Defense remain average, while its Speed is fairly low, which requires anticipating turns in battle.
In terms of EVs, Komala is often optimized with maximum investment in Attack and HP to increase its ability to deal damage while lasting several turns. This spread makes its powerful attacks worthwhile despite its naturally low Speed.
Main Moves and Abilities
Komala's move list includes several very effective Normal-type moves. It has access to high base power attacks, ideal for making the most of its high Attack. Some moves also benefit from bonuses tied to its permanent sleep state.
Komala can learn moves through leveling up, TMs, and breeding. These moves allow it to cover different play styles, from a pure physical attacker to a more situational role depending on the chosen sets. Normal-type attacks remain the core of its gameplay, however.
Weaknesses and Resistances
Being Normal type, Komala has a clear weakness to Fighting-type attacks, which can quickly put it in a difficult position. It is, however, immune to Ghost-type attacks, a notable advantage in certain strategic battles.
This simplicity of weaknesses makes Komala relatively predictable, but also easy to protect within a well-built team, particularly with partners capable of handling the Fighting type.
Komala in Games and Related Content
Komala is available in several main games and can also be encountered in Pokémon GO, where its appearance rate remains limited depending on events. Catching it may require patience, but it remains sought after for completing the Pokédex or building an original team.
On the Pokémon card side, Komala has a few cards highlighting its attacks and its sleep theme. These cards appeal to both collectors and players looking for specific effects tied to the sleep status.
