Detailed information

General overview of Klink

Klink is a Steel-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. It is known by its English name Klink and its Japanese name ギアル. This Pokémon stands out for its mechanical appearance composed of two interlocked gears, making it an immediately recognizable creature in the Unova Pokédex.

Klink belongs to an evolutionary line entirely based on metal and mechanisms. It is primarily appreciated for its unique identity and its very defensive strategic orientation in the early game. Even if its offensive potential remains limited at this stage, it lays the groundwork for a far more powerful evolution. The keyword iic can sometimes appear by mistake in certain databases, but it does indeed refer to Klink.

Type and base characteristics

Klink is exclusively Steel type, which grants it many highly useful resistances in battle. It resists Normal-, Grass-, Ice-, Psychic-, Bug-, Rock-, Dragon-, Flying-, Fairy-, and Steel-type attacks in particular. In return, it remains vulnerable to Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-type attacks, which represent its main threats.

Its base stats are balanced around Defense and Attack, with modest HP. This distribution makes it a decent Pokémon for absorbing physical hits early in the adventure, but less effective against powerful special attacks.

Base stats

  • Relatively low base HP

  • Decent Attack for a base Pokémon

  • Solid Defense thanks to the Steel type

  • Very low Speed

Interesting attacks and moves

Klink's movepool is logically oriented toward Steel- and Normal-type attacks. It quickly learns mechanical moves that exploit its gear design. Its attacks do not deal massive damage, but they are reliable and consistent.

Among notable attacks, one finds moves such as Tackle, Wild Charge, and Screech, which reduces the opponent's Defense. The latter is particularly useful for preparing the ground for a more offensive evolution.

Strategic use in game

Strategically, Klink is rarely used alone over the long term. It serves mainly as a stepping stone to its evolutions, which gain enormously in power. Nevertheless, in a solo playthrough, it can fill a decent defensive role against many types thanks to its natural resistances.

Its low Speed often requires playing cautiously, anticipating the opponent's attacks. It is advisable to pair it with Pokémon capable of handling Fire and Fighting types to compensate for its weaknesses.

Evolution and interest for players

Klink evolves after a certain level by adding a third gear, which noticeably increases its overall stats. This evolution marks a true turning point in its battle effectiveness. Players who invest time in its training are rewarded with a much more threatening Steel-type Pokémon.

For card collectors and players attached to the mechanical universe, Klink remains an emblematic Pokémon of Unova. Its original design, its thematic consistency, and its logical progression make it an interesting creature to own, both on a team and in a collection dedicated to Steel-type Pokémon.
