Detailed information

Overview of Heliolisk

Heliolisk is an Electric and Normal-type Pokémon introduced in the sixth generation. Its Japanese name is エレザード. It is the direct evolution of Helioptile, obtained with a Sun Stone. Heliolisk stands out for its desert lizard appearance, recognizable by its large frill and elongated tail — features directly tied to its affinity with sunlight and electricity.

In the Pokédex, Heliolisk is described as a Pokémon capable of generating electricity by absorbing solar energy. This distinctive trait makes it a very interesting Pokémon for players looking for a fast, special offensive profile capable of applying pressure from the very first turns of battle.

General information and base stats

Heliolisk has a stat profile oriented toward Special Attack and Speed. Its HP remains average, but its ability to hit hard and fast more than makes up for this lack of bulk. Its slender build and lean form explain its gameplay style based on anticipation and mobility.

  • Decent but non-defensive base HP

  • High Special Attack

  • Very high Speed

  • Low Defense and Special Defense

This Pokémon is therefore rarely used as a defensive wall. It shines above all in special sweeper or offensive pivot roles thanks to its natural Speed.

Type, weaknesses, and resistances

Heliolisk's dual Electric and Normal type gives it a distinctive defensive profile. It has only one major weakness, the Ground type, but remains vulnerable to physical attacks in general. However, it benefits from a full immunity to Ghost-type attacks.

  • Primary weakness to the Ground type

  • Resistances to Flying and Steel types

  • Immunity to the Ghost type

This unique type allows Heliolisk to switch in easily against certain Pokémon and anticipate opponent switches.

Main moves and available TMs

Heliolisk has a wide selection of special moves through level-up and TMs. Thunderbolt remains one of its most reliable signature attacks, combining power and accuracy. Parabolic Charge is also highly valued, as it allows HP recovery while dealing consistent damage.

  • Thunderbolt for stable damage output

  • Parabolic Charge for healing and sustained pressure

  • Volt Switch to maintain the pace of battle

  • Flamethrower to cover Grass and Steel types

Through TMs, Heliolisk can also learn moves like Signal Beam or Focus Blast, further improving its offensive coverage.

Recommended IVs, EVs, and nature

For optimal use in battle, Heliolisk is often played with EVs in Special Attack and Speed. Perfect IVs in both stats are strongly recommended in order to maximize its offensive potential.

  • EVs in Special Attack and Speed

  • Timid or Modest nature depending on playstyle

  • Maximized IVs in HP, Special Attack, and Speed

This type of spread allows Heliolisk to outrun many opponents and deal significant damage before being threatened.

Evolution, capture, and strategic use

Heliolisk is obtained by evolving Helioptile with a Sun Stone, with no level requirement. Its catch rate is reasonable, making it easy to add to a team. In battle, it is mainly used as a fast special attacker or as a pressure generator thanks to Volt Switch.

In recent games and competitive formats, Heliolisk remains a popular choice for its flexibility and its ability to surprise opponents with combined Fire and Electric-type attacks. It also finds its place in Pokémon card collections, where its design and link to solar electricity are frequently highlighted.
