Detailed information

General Overview of Haunter

Haunter, known in Japanese as ゴースト, is a Ghost and Poison type Pokémon that holds an essential place in many games thanks to its floating purple form and its battle style based on special attacks and Speed. In the Pokédex, its number comes right after Gastly, and its evolutionary line makes clear that it is the intermediate stage before obtaining Gengar via trading. For a player, all information related to its stats, weaknesses, moves and strategic uses is important for optimizing a team.

Characteristics and Type of Haunter

Haunter remains a Ghost and Poison type Pokémon. This combination gives it interesting advantages against Grass and Fairy types, while granting it a full immunity to Normal and Fighting type moves. Its Defense is low, but its HP and Speed help it strike first in many situations. In terms of base stats, it has a good Special Attack that allows it to use moves like Shadow Ball or Lick in the early generations. Since it has no notably differentiated male or female form, it looks the same regardless of the game version.

Level, Evolution and Strategic Management

Haunter generally appears around level 25 in classic games, particularly in dark areas or on routes linked to haunted towers like Pokémon Tower. To evolve, it must be traded, a required condition to obtain Gengar. This can have an impact in a team project where one wants to optimize training time to reach max level quickly. Expert players know it can be used from mid-game thanks to its Speed, but it requires careful management in battle due to its low Defense.

Recommended Moves and Abilities

Its main moves include Ghost options but also certain Poison techniques useful for hitting more types. Shadow Ball remains its most-used signature move. Lick often appears at early levels, before obtaining more effective moves through TM or by leveling up. For a balanced set, it is useful to give it a Ghost move, a Poison move, a support move like Mean Look, and a move to cover weaknesses such as Fire or Dark, depending on the games and the selected generation.

Stats, EVs and Weaknesses

On the EV side, it benefits most from investment in Special Attack and Speed to maximize its offensive potential. Its Special Defense remains reasonable, but physical Defense can be a problem against some direct attacks. It is vulnerable to the Ghost and Dark types, which requires careful preparation within a team. The stat charts of recent generations confirm that it remains one of the best representatives of the Ghost type at the intermediate stage before Gengar.

Appearances and Details in the Games

Haunter has been present since the first generation and appears in most main games. Its purple color and floating shadow make it a Pokémon that is easy to recognize. In more recent games, managing it remains simple: just train it to level up, then trade it to obtain its final evolution. Many versions make it available in haunted towers, abandoned buildings or nighttime zones.

Additional Information and Collectible Cards

On the collectible card side, Haunter has received several different illustrations across expansions and years. The oldest versions feature its classic black and purple style, while recent cards place greater emphasis on its floating appearance and its role as the intermediate stage before Gengar. Some cards focus on Ghost moves that deal direct damage or have disruptive secondary effects. For a collector, it can be interesting to compare each card number, its base values, its rarity and the notable difference between editions in different languages.
