Overview of Gurdurr

Gurdurr is a Fighting-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. It is known as Gurdurr in English and ドテッコツ in Japanese. Gurdurr holds an important place in the Unova Pokédex as the direct evolution of Timburr and the intermediate stage before Conkeldurr, making it a key Pokémon in a team oriented around raw power and close-quarters combat.

Recognizable by the large construction beam it carries over its shoulder, Gurdurr is a Pokémon built around physical power and endurance. Its design perfectly reflects its combat role, with a robust body designed to absorb hits and retaliate effectively. For players, it represents a solid option during the main adventure, especially before accessing its final evolution.

Base stats and combat profile

Gurdurr's base stats are clearly oriented toward Attack and HP. Its high Attack allows it to deal significant damage from the first turns, while its adequate HP and honorable Defense ensure good staying power in battle. Its Speed, however, remains limited, which often calls for strategic play.

In battle, Gurdurr excels in direct confrontations. It is particularly effective against Normal, Rock, Steel, and Ice types. In contrast, it remains vulnerable to Psychic, Flying, and Fairy-type attacks, which requires careful anticipation when switching Pokémon on the opposing side.

Strategic use in gameplay

Thanks to its Fighting type, Gurdurr is often used as a physical attacker in Unova teams. It can fill the role of a defense breaker thanks to powerful attacks and its ability to learn moves like Brick Break or Low Kick, ideal for reducing the opponent's defensive advantage.

Notable moves and abilities

Gurdurr's move pool is rich and varied for a Fighting Pokémon. It naturally learns several punching and close-combat moves, reinforcing its role as a frontline fighter. Moves like Bulk Up allow it to increase its stats, while Low Sweep and Poison Jab provide interesting coverage against different types.

Via TMs and HMs, Gurdurr can access complementary moves that improve its versatility. This makes it an appreciated choice for players looking for a reliable Pokémon without depending solely on the final evolution.

Evolution and progression

Gurdurr is the direct evolution of Timburr at a certain level. Its final evolution into Conkeldurr does not occur through standard leveling but by trade, which strongly influences player choices depending on their game mode. Many choose to keep Gurdurr for a large part of the adventure due to its excellent power-to-availability ratio.

This evolutionary line makes Gurdurr a central Pokémon in the Fighting-type progression, both in story mode and for the preparation of intermediate competitive teams.

Gurdurr in the Pokémon Trading Card Game

In the trading card game, Gurdurr appears regularly as a card focused on power and consistency. Its cards feature fixed or scaling damage attacks, often tied to its HP count or reinforcement effects. For collectors, Gurdurr remains a well-regarded card in Unova-related sets.

Its intermediate role between Timburr and Conkeldurr is also reflected in its card values, offering a good balance between Energy cost and power, making it playable in certain Fighting decks oriented around sustained pressure.
