Overview of Scrutella

Scrutella is a Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Known by its English name Gothita and its Japanese name ゴチム, this Pokémon originates from the Unova region and first appears in Pokémon Black and White. Scrutella stands out for its humanoid appearance and fixed gaze, often associated with its latent psychic powers.

In the Pokédex, Scrutella is described as a Pokémon capable of intensely observing its opponent to analyze their movements and emotions. This observational ability plays an important role in battle, particularly when it comes to anticipating certain attacks. Its small size and calm demeanor conceal an interesting strategic potential for players who favor the Psychic type.

Base Stats and Battle Profile

Scrutella has modest base stats, suited to a Pokémon at the start of its evolutionary line. Its HP remains relatively low, making it vulnerable to powerful physical attacks. On the other hand, its Special Defense stat is decent for its level, allowing it to withstand certain Psychic or special hits.

Its Special Attack is one of its strong points, making it a good choice for exploiting Psychic attacks from the early levels. In battle, Scrutella is more often used as a support or Special Attack Pokémon rather than a tank. Players frequently invest EVs in Special Attack and Speed to improve its overall effectiveness.

Psychic Type and Weaknesses

As a Psychic-type Pokémon, Scrutella benefits from resistances to Fighting and Psychic attacks. However, it is particularly susceptible to Dark, Ghost, and Bug-type attacks. These weaknesses must be taken into account when building a team, especially in strategic battles or competitive matches.

Its type nonetheless allows it to deal significant damage to Fighting and Poison-type opponents. Used well, Scrutella can surprise with its psychic moves, especially at low levels in Black and White.

Moves and Learned Abilities

Scrutella primarily learns Psychic-type moves as it levels up. Among the most common are Confusion, Psyshock, and Psybeam, which make full use of its Special Attack. These moves are effective for dealing consistent damage in battle.

It can also learn certain moves via TMs, giving it interesting offensive coverage, particularly against Grass and Fighting types. Even if its raw power remains limited, its move set is coherent for a Pokémon at this stage of evolution.

Evolution and Place in the Line

Scrutella evolves into Gothorita starting at level 32, and then into Gothitelle afterward. This evolution considerably improves its stats, particularly in Special Attack and Defense, making the line much more viable in advanced battles. Scrutella thus represents a preparation stage before reaching the full potential of the Gothita line.

For players looking to invest for the long term, catching and training Scrutella from its first appearance is a logical strategy, especially in Pokémon White where it is more readily available.

In-Game Use and Collectible Cards

In the main games, Scrutella is mostly used early to mid-adventure, before it evolves. It is rarely seen in raids or high-level battles without having evolved. Its catch rate is standard for a base-stage Pokémon, making it accessible to players.

On the collectible card side, Scrutella appears regularly in Unova-based expansions. Cards featuring it often highlight its gaze and psychic aura. While its value remains moderate, certain editions interest collectors looking to complete the full Gothita line.
