Overview of Glastrier
Glastrier is a Legendary Pokémon of the Ice type introduced in the eighth generation, in the Pokémon Sword and Shield games via the Crown Tundra expansion. Its English name is Glastrier and its Japanese name is ブリザポス. It takes the appearance of a massive horse clad in natural ice armor, with hooves capable of freezing the ground with every kick.
Glastrier is closely linked to the story of the Crown Tundra and to the Legendary Pokémon Calyrex. There is only one Glastrier per save file, making it a highly sought-after creature by players, both for the game and for the Trading Card Game.
Type and gameplay characteristics
Glastrier is exclusively Ice type. This typing grants it excellent offensive power but also marked weaknesses against Fire, Fighting, Steel, and Rock type attacks. In return, Glastrier stands out through stats oriented toward physical Attack and Defense, making it a formidable offensive wall in many formats.
Its very low Speed imposes a particular playstyle, often based on teams using Trick Room or on raw pressure capable of tanking several hits before striking back.
Key abilities and moves
Glastrier's primary ability is Chilling Neigh. This ability raises its Attack by one stage each time it knocks out an opposing Pokémon. In extended battles, this ability can transform Glastrier into a true sweeping machine, especially in the late game.
Among its most-used moves in competitive play, you will find:
Glacial Lance, a very powerful and reliable signature attack
Earthquake, to cover its weaknesses against Steel and Fire types
Close Combat or Superpower, to surprise certain counters
Rest or Protect, to optimize its longevity depending on the chosen strategy
Glastrier and Calyrex Ice Rider form
Glastrier can merge with Calyrex to form Ice Rider Calyrex, often called the White Rider form. In this form, the offensive and defensive stats are further enhanced, making this combination one of the most powerful of the generation.
This fusion is particularly appreciated in ranked battles and strategic formats, as it combines Glastrier's robustness with Calyrex's special capabilities, while maintaining constant pressure on the opponent.
Glastrier in the Pokémon TCG
In the Trading Card Game, Glastrier has several cards highlighting its raw power and endurance. The Glastrier V and Glastrier VMAX cards are very popular in Ice-oriented decks, thanks to attacks that deal heavy damage in exchange for a manageable Energy cost.
These cards are often sought by collectors, particularly in their Shiny or alternative versions. Their value depends on condition, rarity, and the set of origin, making them an interesting product both for play and for collecting.
Obtaining it and appeal for players
To catch Glastrier in Pokémon Sword and Shield, the player must progress through the Crown Tundra story and make key narrative choices. Once obtained, Glastrier becomes a major asset for completing a team focused on power and field control.
Whether to optimize a competitive strategy, complete the Pokédex, or enrich a card collection, Glastrier remains an iconic Pokémon, appreciated for its imposing design, its performances, and its status as a unique legendary.
