General overview of Galvantula

Galvantula is a Bug- and Electric-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its English name is Galvantula and its Japanese name is デンチュラ. It is the direct evolution of Joltik, a small Pokémon that gains in power and speed once evolved.

Galvantula is particularly appreciated by players for its offensive role and its ability to put constant pressure through its high Speed and Electric attacks. In the Pokédex, it is described as a Pokémon that uses electrified threads to trap its opponents before striking them hard.

Type and base characteristics

Galvantula has a dual Bug and Electric typing, which gives it an interesting profile in battle. This combination allows it to resist several types while remaining vulnerable to Rock and Fire attacks.

In terms of base stats, Galvantula stands out primarily for its Speed and Special Attack. Its HP are decent without being exceptional, which calls for strategic use in battle.

  • Primary type: Bug

  • Secondary type: Electric

  • Approximate height: 0.8 m

  • Average weight: 14.3 kg

  • Generation: Unova

Stats and battle potential

Galvantula's stats are oriented toward fast attacking. Its Speed stat often allows it to strike first, a key advantage in competitive strategy. Its high Special Attack makes it formidable with powerful Electric moves.

Its Defense and Special Defense remain average, which means it should avoid prolonged battles. Galvantula is therefore often used as a sweeper, capable of dealing heavy damage before being knocked out.

At level 50 or level 100, a good EV distribution in Special Attack and Speed allows it to optimize its effectiveness against many opponents.

Main attacks and strategic moves

Galvantula has a wide selection of Electric- and Bug-oriented attacks. These attacks are particularly useful for handling Water, Flying, and Psychic types.

  • Thunderbolt to deal heavy Electric damage

  • Bug Buzz to exploit its Bug type

  • Wild Charge for a riskier playstyle

  • Volt Switch to maintain tactical pressure

Thanks to TMs and HMs, Galvantula can adapt its moveset to the game format. In double battles, it is often used for its Speed and its ability to quickly weaken multiple threats.

Evolution and how to obtain it

Galvantula evolves from Joltik by leveling up. This evolution happens relatively early, making it an excellent choice for a team during the main adventure.

Galvantula's capture rate remains moderate depending on the game. It can be encountered in the wild in certain specific areas of Unova or obtained through evolution. In Pokémon GO, it sometimes appears during specific events or raids.

Use in cards and collecting

In the trading card game, Galvantula has several interesting cards focused on speed and charged attacks. Some versions feature paralysis effects or additional damage based on Electric energy.

Galvantula cards are appreciated by collectors for their dynamic design and their consistency with the Pokémon's abilities in the video games. They remain affordable in price while being playable in certain Electric decks.

Strengths and weaknesses to know

Galvantula excels against Water and Flying Pokémon thanks to its fast Electric attacks. Its main weakness lies in its defensive fragility and its vulnerability to Rock attacks.

When used well, Galvantula can turn a battle around in a few turns and stands as a solid choice for players looking for a fast and effective offensive Pokémon.
